21 days if I am lucky and I will have my own silkie chicks to snuggle. If Perdita lets me that is. She was awful bitey when I snuck the store egg away from her. Shrieking biting demon, momma Gryffyn would be proud. I apologized and she liked me again when I gave her the eggs to hatch. I put them in front of her and let her tuck them underneath her. She got 7. It still did not stop her from looking up at me expectantly looking for more.
That’s perfect 😊 I cannot wait! They are so teeny tiny when hatched 😊

Pullets pop wattles about the same time they start growing their comb: roughly 2 weeks before they start laying. Cockerels pop their wattles about the same time they start growing their comb: MUCH, MUCH earlier....
Well she is only 11 weeks so too early to be laying eggs.

Wish I had just done the gender dna when I did the silkie chicks.

Also Mr P attacked Rico tonight when I was putting everyone to bed; I didn’t see what was happening, but Mr P got down off his roost and was quite aggressive with Rico. Not sure if Rico got up and ticked him off or what.

On the one hand I am happy to have Rico put in his place, but on the other hand I don’t want Mr P to start beating on him.

What I think happened was Rico got up with him and Fluffy, Mr P became mad about this (Fluffy is not brooding the chicks any more and he is breeding her again); so P put him in his place. Poor Rico.

It's tough to watch, but Rico will be a better roo for it. It's also good to know that Mr P will apply discipline.

Yup teeny tiny balls of perfection. I am really curious to see for myself the difference in pet silkie chicks and quality silkie chicks.
Yes I will be interested to compare with these I have here; they will soon be going back to my friend, Fluffy stopped brooding them last week, and Curly is leaving them more and more.

She continues to brood them in the nest box at night. But she has been pecking at Penne to push him away during the day, he still cuddles with her and his sisters at night - it’s hilarious the size difference now.

I sure will miss them, I have been distancing myself from them 😟

Distancing is difficult to do!

It was just so shocking I have never seen him act so aggressive! Oh he pecked that chick that time but it was one of those normal chicken pecks.

This was a jump on Rico and grab him by the back pummelling him 😳 and it lasted for 4 seconds. At least, till Rico managed to get away.

Yes I am hoping it keeps him in line, and with a bunch of other cockerels coming along, it’s going to be a long summer for P. I will be happy once I get them all sent to camp. I am thinking 16 weeks - Rico is 11 weeks and I don’t see him big enough to process so I know the others wont be at 14 weeks.
