Thanks Bob! 😊 . We were really worried. To think it was only a layer of skin that caused so much discomfort was a real pleasant surprise, it could have been far worse.

Apparently it's like nothing happened at all now except he's fine today with no more eye infection
Just marvelous to hear! 👍

@ChicoryBlue, thank you. Should I give some Nutridrench afterward? I'd read that chicks, especially, need the thiamine.

Thank you! The chicks (Pip is one of them) are 8.5 weeks old. Same advice? I should have said how old the littles are.
Can you treat the chicks separately? If so I would stop them at 5 days. Thiamine is essential to nerve development and a deficiency can cause problems in leg development. I would stop the chicks at 5 days and use the nutridrench. Of course, that only works if they are drinking different water from the bigs.

I'm so glad the recovery is so dramatic. That is also what I have seen when I have treated.

I really do think that Peanut should have lived longer, but Eli really should have.
I agree when you said that we make a bigger deal of the bad things rather than the good.

BBQ could be molting but she has been like this for months.
Oh yes I agree, didn’t mean to give the impression I am fine with what happened to her. Not at all. I believe it was the result of her genetics, the efforts to “improve” the Buckeye breed. You will find much agreement on this thread about the horrible results of breeding / selecting only for food production.

Butters is similar to BBQ in that she never got nice new feathers for her back half with the last Fall moltand she has carried ragged cover feathers around all winter. Now she seems to be in a molt again with her behavior and appetite loss, and a few leg fluff feathers looked out of place recently. But I see no progression of it, if that’s what’s going on.

Was just checking out another thread and came across someone stating that the Silkie black skin is on the Z chromosome so cockerels will have dark skin but pullets will have white skin!

Next time I will look for light skinned pullets 😊

That only works on silkie crosses, if the roo is a silkie and the hen isn't. Purebred silkies will all have black skin.

I can't, really. The littles have their own waterer (and food), but they have access to the rest of the coop and run now. They have Little Doors so they can get away from the adults.

I will look to see if there are any more bloody poops. It's a bit awkward to clean their area of the coop, so I don't do it at morning open up. It was also a bit dark in that corner to make a judgment call on if what I see is blood.

I know how important Thiamine is to their development, so unless I see blood, tomorrow will be the 5th and last dose. Sunday, I'll put some probiotics in their waterer. They do use that one more than the adult waterer, but all the water has had Corid in it.

Sunday, I think everyone will get a little Sav-A-Chick probiotic mixed in with mash snack too. Which I might make using homemade kombucha tea.

Thanks, everybody, for your input and caring.

No that is an old photo of my friend Sansa.

Interesting thought. I dont think I have bought walnuts for them since Sansa passed. Maybe the newer girls would like walnuts?
Oh yes I forgot about Sansa, maybe I need a refresher on your primer 😊
