Sure does suck! My condenser coil outside my house has a bullet hole in it now. It stopped working last night!
The sheriff said they were investigating vandalism cases locally.
In this friggin heat, me and my chooks are in peril!

Time to go feed chooks and see if Indigo came in after last check. If not, I'm going to be on broody watch again so I can follow her to her nest. (She is NOT on the one Lark gave away at the top of the olive trees.

You have a rooster. That means you have fertile eggs. Your broody has done the rest.

My lot got hatched in the incubator, but came from my (and my MIL's birds). We split the hatch....and the broody bug swept through her crew: about 20 chicks (not including the meat chicks) as a result (including the incubator). She had something like 6 broodies....with another starting up the end if June (and determined not to break).

I have 2, with Mera making a go of it (I'm glad nothing hatched: good test for her staying power, but she needs to be more assertive). Storm is trying to equal the numbers all by herself. She's got 13 eggs. I have several more thinking about it (and several aiding in that by hiding eggs). So far no one else has committed to sitting (thankfully). I can coo over the chicks at the store and leave them for others.

Next time the MIL and I want to bring in fresh genetics to our menageries, we're going to place 1 order, and split the chicks. That way neither of us has to bring in more than we can reasonably accommodate. At the moment, we're doing some genetic swapping via 1 incubator loaded with eggs from both groups. We end up with beautiful bitsas with totally unique markings, and as a whole, I think the birds are healthier. We both have breeds on our wish list, but neither of us is ready to bring in more genetics.

With the numbers, chicken math....sigh....chicks are cute. Others can enjoy them. My birds can make my own.

I don't know if I'll let another hatch for a bit. We'll try to break broodiness if we can. Although I'd love to see baby Shebas.

I will buy pullets if I need to get chicks anymore. The Roos are to much drama, and issues with getting rid of them too difficult.

And I will hand rear them rather than with a broody.

I am quite interested in getting some Brahma still.

I've been considering getting rid of Manny. He's pretty. And while he's not friendly, he's also not a mean rooster. But I never wanted a rooster and he definitely overmates Sheba and Eenie. But there's no way I can eat him. So not sure what to do.

Not sure if a Mourning Dove or Blue Jay laid these, they are pink and they were warm so someone was sitting on them, but the location is rather sketchy!

I doubt an eves trough is a good place to lay eggs.

We had robins in our gutters. Hope they flew away before our latest storm.

They like grapes more than barley and hops! Makes perfect sense to me.

I begin to understand the low price for your rental property. That's bad. You mentioned moving. Hope you can do that.


All was well in the coop this morning. Mama and babies were scratching around. I reached in to clean the waterer and she made sure to keep them FAR from me. I want to hold a chick darnit! I definitely see how purchased chicks raised by a human would grow up to be friendlier.

I think this is just another reason to consider moving....I would hate if you or your chooks were hurt - bullets flying is terrible - and there is always the possibility of a ricochet even if they didn't intend to hurt something living!
