I've heard of adult chickens who can't figure these out, what a little smartie!

Adults are easy to teach too: daub with peanut butter, stick scratch or mealworms in it. They peck, water comes out. Got it figured out.

The syringe is not good in that case - I know I had that issue yesterday trying to give my horse some pain meds - I pulled the meds up into the syringe no problem - went to give to the horse and the plunger wouldn't depress! Then I couldn't get the meds back out of the syringe, took all my strength and a lot of swearing to get the meds out into a bowl. I then got a new syringe to use.

The vet used it once, I used it with difficulty once but actually twice - because first it was stiff then suddenly gave way - picture liquid feed spray over bathroom walls, furniture, sink, me - so I made another batch and it worked, but very hard, then this last unsuccessful time would be the fourth time, so it got barely three uses.
