Ok so think of it this way - it was actually very productive and successful, no one was hurt, and everyone learnt something.

I say job well done! Every time you do something it will be easier the next time ❤️
@Lilion I agree here, sounds like a great first day, especially tackling two issues at once! ❤️

Nope, got this late today. The poop tray was fine, only two poops in there, normal looking.
First pic, as it lay right after Butters pooped

This pic I pulled it apart, in a couple places, I'd say it's grass

Seeing her eat only tiny bits of pellets and sweep the rest I tried a little Starter crumbles with her, and she loves it and has kept coming back to it this afternoon. Also did it with the idea that a new food she might be more inclined to try. It's medicated so I don't want to continue her on it but thought it would be an experiment and it might help her, as she does not like the Exact baby formula powder. She has kept coming back to it so I'll buy some high-protein crumbles for her, either non-medicated Starter (thoughts?) or adult high protein, if I can find it.

She ate three blueberries offered to her, one after the other, which is completely new behavior. Then she stopped on the fourth, trying to eat it, but put it down and was adjusting her crop with some neck twists. A bit later she yawned and stretched her neck again. It ain't right in there possibly. But overall she is really perking up. Tail's up, moving very well, lots of energy, not standing around hunched, her neck's not quite right but looks much better. This is her on the left, with Popcorn's butt.

I felt her crop tonight - like a small firm golf ball, the bottom of the ball very delineated, like I could feel the curve up into her body on the underside. I felt Popcorn's - she's a pig - like feeling a third of a softball, also similarly firm, but flatter to the body though, no underside curve.

Butters' left eye seems the same, it bothers her and she scratches around it. I'll take another look closely tomorrow when I weigh her. I will be updating the vet again.
It is so good to hear Butters is improving.

In the first picture, the poop, it is still long and thin. Is is possible that there is still blockage so that her poop is not coming out in the regular shape?

For food, maybe you can try some of the food that RC mentioned here for tube feeding: https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-27057425

I also hope you three little ones are thriving!

Mama Sophia and her babies are sharing the prime roost with Auntie Blanche tonight 😊 Auntie Penelope has been somehow persuaded to give up her spot.

The babies are tucked into the corner with Sophia.

@ChicoryBlue

Have you mentioned these fibrous stools to the Vet? I wonder if some mineral oil might help ease things along…?

Also do you think it might be feathers? Those long fibrous strands….?

It might be helpful to bring a sample to the Vet to look at under a microscope.

I would stick with coconut oil. It will do the same thing as mineral oil and is way easier to handle.

Of course it could also be grass that has been passing through her system, and became dried out as she became dehydrated, and is now clearing her system. in which case something to break up the stool might help. Something like Dioctyl sodium sulfosuccinate which is a surfactant/ stool softener.

I'm sorry that I've not been here for the past week. I've been trying to treat two sick guinea hens.

Today I figured out that it was Coccidiosis, and rushed to TSC. When I got back, one was dead. I was crying my heart out. I let poor Eclipse down. I treated all my birds with Corrid, and gave Frost, the other sick one, some Corrid. About 30 minutes ago, I picked her up because her head was lolled back. She was alive, barely. I sat down on a chair and started talking to her.

She started having death spasms in my arms and died.

It's been an awful day. I can't believe that I lost two of my beloved girls.

So sorry to everyone who lost chooks this past week.
@RebeccaBoyd is the only one I know for sure who lost chooks. I am so sad that Chiqlita (sorry about the spelling 😕) passed.

Oh, and @ChicoryBlue. So happy that you got chicks. So sad that two passes 😕

And to whoever else lost chooks this week 😕

I just lost my Abigail yesterday:(

If it is an issue of impacted stool something like Dioctyl sodium sulfosuccinate will be required, as a surfactant it will help break up and soften any dried impacted stools. Mineral oil would only coat it and help lubricate it. Coconut oil won’t do either, but will be an excellent high fat additive (I use it for fattening horses, that and canola oil which is way less expensive for a horse long term use).

It might be worth her asking her Vet.
