I'm selling a pair of Sussex chickens next weekend to another breeder! It's Oreo and Stiches, I will miss them but I have way to many chickens. What can I say, I guess chicken math got the best of me!

Hi everyone,

Last night did not go as planned. Walked down to the horse show as it was starting with Rosie. 3 minutes later I am pulled into the concession stand. One of the workers did not show up so they were short handed. Rosie also did not show Russ. When we pulled him out of his stall to tack him up he was slightly limping. Cleaned out his feet and he is touchy on the foot that the abscess was in this spring. Could not find anything wrong with the foot other then he is sore when I went to clean his foot out. I hope another abscess is not brewing. Had him out today and no limp what-so-ever but I was tired and did not feel like bending over digging in the foot. Rosie claims he was smart and did not want to show in the heat and humidity so pulled a sick day. It was brutal yesterday and still miserable last night. The concession stand was miserably hot and of course I had to take a hot flash on top of it. I am going to try to get back into the spirit of taking pictures of the flock again. I broke over yesterday and downloaded the pictures I had on it. I had been dreading doing it as they had the ones I took after the dog attack. Those are now downloaded, stored in a separate file so I do not have to look at them again and memory card erased. Raven is officially done being a mother. Her chicks turn 9 weeks tomorrow and she abandoned them today. That also was my cue to move them off the porch tonight and into the coop. I guess I also now need to list the 2 boys in the group. I have been waiting due to those 2 speckled sussex chicks. They do not act like it, but my gut is telling me they are boys.

Sorry about Russ, but to be honest if it has to be something, an abcess is a good thing, they resolve almost immediately when then break the surface, unless they break at the coronet band - top of hoof where it meets skin. My neighbour’s elderly mare did this but it also ran right down the hood to the bottom also and came through at the white line.

A whole year for the hood to grow out properly.

That happened to Lulu also and I had to put shoes on her to help hold the hoof together so it wouldn’t split to the top. Ugh, expensive 😟

Penne is such a ham, he knows if he comes on the office he gets treats - what a turkey 😁

List the boys from the hatch. With Nox and Mera, there were several times I was questioning, then said no, be patient. They did turn out as pullets. Maybe a photo project for the next week while you work on taming any of the others? Hopefully we can settle your gut. :hugs :hugs :hugs For you and for Rosie being smart and catching Russ and the foot. Nice catch!

For Pony Sunday (and other critters), I took this pic at work yesterdayView attachment 3601015She's 1 week old. The 1st time mother had twins and rejected this one. Owner is raising, had to get stuff, so brought along in a baby wrap/sling. This will be a VERY people friendly standard sized goat when she's grown. (Didn't ask the breed). Her ears are as soft as Sherlock's.

And last walk before leaving for work yesterday...View attachment 3601025View attachment 3601026View attachment 3601027Curious pup, curious buck
She's a beauty and that dog looks like a healthy alert boy

You must feel totally exhausted. I hope you can take it easy today.
