Not sure about the galvanized bit Bob. I won't use them here and not will many other chicken keepers. The galv is poisonous. Big clay dog bowls might be a better option.

I have a plastic one too. I'll use that. Thanks for the heads up. I had no idea. I'm glad I mentioned it.

Old pictures, but that clay pot is what I and many others use here.
The opening is small enough to stop the dogs, sheep etc from drinking from it. The clay helps to keep the water cooler in the summer months. They don't freeze as quickly in the winter as plastic containers. The drinking cup needs a scrub out from time to time, or you can put a small amount of oxine or even vinegar in the water to combat the slime build up.

This is being debated. I was lucky to be home the whole time. COVID helped by stopping my travel so I was able to make certain she got food and dustbathing every day. It would be easier if it was someone higher in the pecking order next time.

You all know that I'm a big softie where my ladies are concerned. I had a hard time telling Maleficent no and that was October. On the flip side, I am crushing on these two. So far Ned is so lovable that I'm really glad I can't keep a rooster.

On the whole, I'm guessing I might try it again. I am assuming I can find Ned a good home. If I have trouble doing that then I doubt I would want to try to rehome another rooster.

I have enjoyed every minute of it, stress and all.

Those clay pots are pretty cool. I can see how they would hold heat in the winter sun. And they are much more decorative than the plastic things I use. Very clever.

And now for the Insects

This is the time of the year when my bank yard explodes with flowers designed to bring in bees and butterflies. The crown jewel of pollen feeders is my 110 foot white butterfly bush. From time to time I am going to share butterfly and bee pictures now along with chicken photos. I hope everyone likes them.

We've had it too Lozzy. It bucketed down for 2 days straight & even though I opened the gate the girls huddled under the coop & complained. LOUDLY!

I think you get the weather first, then us, then @MaryJanet . It seems to travel south. Did you get Rain the last two days @Aussie-Chookmum ?
