Do you have one of those head lights? I have one built into my winter toque but you can get them just on straps. That way you don’t have to handle flashlight and chickens.
I have one on straps, and it has a red light selection too. The chickens don't see red well. When I've used it, they know something is there, but they don't try to fly/jump away because there isn't enough light. But I can see well enough to do what I need to do.

Mugs Monday

Good morning all! It’s a sunny clear morning here, 12C (54F) and no humidity, for me it’s rather chilly, but the horses and chickens are happy with the weather. Unfortunately more rain on the way overnight and tomorrow, yay more mosquitoes….

This morning Ruth wants to say good morning!

Gosh those colours are gorgeous; so many spangles, spots, and zigs and zags - just gorgeous ❤️

And of course Sherlock is a lovely wee gentleman 😊

I was wondering about your quail you hatched; so this is a dove then. Soooo tiny ❤️ How old is s/he?
My quail I hatched are doing amazing! I got two hens and a roo. That's great for me because my roo before had died to a broken neck. It's about two-three weeks old! I hand rear lots of baby birds and I sell them as pets once they are tame. Here is Pancake, she loves sleeping and laying her eggs in this log nest that goes into the rock wall that separats the soils and plans from the white gravel!

Yes they are settled in, I kept my nieces hens with them last night and this morning they were right at the door with the hens impatiently waiting for their morning mash! And when I went in they followed me and tucked right into their morning mash.

Guess I am not too scary ha!

But I am terrified to let them loose in the barn, what if they get loose outside? What if they won’t come back in? What if something happens and I need to handle them?

Also I have noted that unlike my wild things who fly jump and run everywhere these wee ladies don’t seem to know what running jumping and playing is all about. That makes me very sad - and ask myself where they just kept in a factory floor ? Well yes I tell myself of course - these factories would have thousands of birds - and they can’t spoil them with roosts, hay bales, boxes, walls to fly up on….

Maybe they need to be out with the wild things learning these things. What does everyone think? I may just set them free tomorrow in the barn seeing as how Fluffy has pretty much ruined any quarantine. I am terrified at the thought of them running free in the barn. And then there is that opening at the top of the back door for the swallows to fly through, what if they fly up there and get free outside?

What if they get into the loft? Gawd, Rebecca has given me a fear of the loft now 😁
