Some outdoor therapy. My MIL was the one who gave us our first chickens, Silver being the only one we still have. She's flock leader and came up within a couple of feet of Sherlock today. I was feeding the birds bits of a banana. Sherlock jumped for her, was corrected and she displayed her agility and speed, getting across the open area to the olive trees before Sherlock turned to see where she went. Meanwhile he's being a charming puppyView attachment 3610893If a mite silly. He also decided that playing in a hose can be funView attachment 3610890He kept pulling grass along with the water.

Meanwhile Storm posedView attachment 3610892I think that's Nimbus with her. Cumulo appears to be popping Mama Storm's crest (going to be bigger). That little one is in too much motion to get clear pics at the moment.

We're waiting on a package arriving (requires a signature), then heading back over to help figure out funeral arrangements. Yesterday, we left Sherlock home as we knew it would be a long day. Hoping to bring him with today. The puppy antics may help cheer her dogs. The little one (a Shi Zhu) tried to attack the EMTs. He also spent most of yesterday attempting to lay by the foot of her side of the bed. FIL had just finished feeding her chickens yesterday when we arrived and looked so lost. Going to be a rough road for a while.
It’s good he has the chooks they will keep him busy, and hopefully remind him of all the good times 💕

She sure told me!
Dakota jumped up on a pile of boxes on the porch where I was sitting. Then she squawked. Then she jumped over to the table next to me, staring at me, she squawked again. I extended my hand and she jumped up on my arm. Inside we went (where the good treats are) that Dakota, she ain’t no dummy!
Did I ever tell you the story of one of my BR girls?

The chooks were free ranging, and I went inside for a minute, then came back out. One of my BRs jumped up on the step railing to say 'hi' (really, to see if I had any treats). Of course, I loved the fact that she 'came to say hello', and gave her a mealworm (just one). Well every time after that, if she was out and saw me, she would hop up on the railing and give me a little squawk - and I would talk to her and give her a mealworm.

Well, one time I was in a rush to an appointment (hubby was home), came running out the door - she saw me and ran & flew up on the railing - I breezed right by. She turned around and Squawked at the top of her lungs - yelling at me!!!
Hubby just grinned and said 'Hmmm, who has who trained????"

Um, yes, dear, they are pretty good at training me!

Chicken gossip corner. They are plotting to extort more treats from me.

(P.S. Do you like my 4 legged, headless hen? Pretty special, huh!:gig:gig:gig - one of these days I will get better at picture taking!

There the chooks, 2 dogs (1 supposed to be FIL, but clamed MIL), a cat (supposed to be MIL but claimed FIL), and 4 horses and the niece's dog. They also bought hunting tags on Monday. Archery season opened yesterday. No idea how much hunting will actually be done as they process it all themselves (MIL being the head honcho on turning much into jerky, sausage, and kielbasa). BIL pulled his camper out of hunting camp, where it usually lives for the duration of the season. Off season, it's parked in the yard next to FIL's camper. They're staying in it for a while, too, so will also be there. His wife is almost as deeply involved in the meat processing so will likely head up that part, now.

FIL is already thinking on cutting costs so will likely get rid of his camper. Mentioned used to camp out alone in a tent and idea of getting a new tent. We all promptly brought up idea of the tent camper shell for a pick up truck as a better idea. None of us like the idea of him camping out alone.

I'm hoping that he takes his brother with him if he does go camping. The brother has already been down this road and is facing the prospect of losing a second wife in the nearest future.

Granite may be a boy. Comb is looking somewhat pinkish.

Nimbus, I think? Cumulo would pop up head with something behind to help highlight the shape when the camera was pointed elsewhere.

And Cardhu posed in just the right spot to NOT be able to see comb/crest possibilities. Based upon the salmony tones showing on the breast, hoping this one's a pullet.

Quartz is showing no pink yet, and has feathers coming down the spine. Can't quite tell if those have color or just need to spread from the pin a bit more to remove the shadows.

Persuade FIL not to make any big decisions so soon. Of course he can mull things over but things will look different again in a few weeks.
