HI and welcome. I love the names, I too have used food themed names. Your EEs are adorable. Until 12 weeks ago I resisted EE. I have always heard good things about them, love their beards but blue or green eggs are not my cup of tea. I prefer brown, dark brown so I gravitate towards my Marans and Marans mixes. My sister and daughter have nagged me for a while that I needed a blue egg layer. Nope, no I do not was always my reply. Well, I had a hen go broody and only hatch out 4 chicks. Proven mother who has adopted chicks before and a few days previously I had passed on some Bielfielder chicks because I did not want to brood them myself. I decided this was my chance to get Bielfielders, unfortunately they were sold out and I missed my chance. Instead I brought her home 2 barred Rocks, 2 speckled sussex, 2 wyandottes and 2 EEs. She adopted them no problem but in that first week I lost both wyandottes, 1 EE and 1 of her natural hatched chicks. That little EE, let me tell you she is something else. The sweetest, friendliest chick I have had in a long time. My daughter and sister are excited to finally get blue or green eggs. I tell her daily if she wants to lay brown, she can.Absolutely !! Im Bri, I’m 28 from Los Angeles. I’m still getting use to this app so I apologize if I’m all over the place. Hehe here are some photos of my flock & one of my coop. Only have 4 pullets, 23 week old EEs. They have redder combs and faces now, these photos were from a few weeks ago. They are named Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Judy.![]()
Muffy - she’s a splash but has that butterscotch coloured feathers on her neck like her sister Butterscotch.Even the worst EE can be a wonderful bird if loved and trained properly.

Seeing them aroud sunrise or sunset isn’t unusual. Middle of the day is. Rabies being the thing everyone thinks about. It's possible their nest site was disturbed so mama took baby elsewhere: rain, animal, humans...For Pony Sunday some different daytime visitors.
I think they are usually nocturnal - I am not sure if having a baby makes them more likely to be out during the day.
