Felt everyone today, Popcorn has a full belly, and seemed to not be comfortable breathing when I picked her up and put her on my lap for butt patrol, twice as I did it in two sessions, pin feathers back there had gotten crusted with poop. She’s one I haven’t seen poop in real time yet. So she warrants closer watch and maybe a vet check X-ray. She is a 4 on the conditioning scale 1-5, not yet obese but over conditioned. She is a pig! She’s incredibly well-trained to my voice because she is so food-motivated, and the lowest in the pecking order. She pays attention!
The coop poops looked fine this morning. I think Butters was sleeping in the nest box last night, which is fine, she has so little cushioning on her the hemp must be nice to lay her keel on. The poops there also were usual for how she is pooping, light green, kind of wet, bits in them.
One nice thing today was when I was getting crusted poops out of Popcorn’s butt feathers. Popcorn would turn her head into my shirt folds or wrinkle in my pants and wiggle her beak around with rhythmic grooming motions, “assisting” as she felt me grooming her and breaking up poops back there. I know it’s an automatic response to the feeling (I think), but although she first objected to being picked up, once on my lap she relaxed enough to let me do it, and felt safe enough to do that in response. I liked it.
