I have been trying this, but he always keeps about five feet between us, so if I approach him to offer something he moves away!

I have tried to drop treats nonchalantly near him when they are outside of the run, but again those hens don't miss anything and they all come charging over and poor Cesario runs away because wouldn't you if a horde of voracious ladies came at you like that?! :lau

I will keep trying.
Happens to me all the time (voracious ladies) that’s why I stay away from dance halls, and drinking establishments! :old :gig

Scattering Hay or woodchips on the really muddy areas can help absorb the moisture and avoid this in the future. Stones or gravel might also be good.
To add: Cute Buff Orpingtons!
I think poor @ChicoryBlue is past that kind of situation - she needs to improve drainage.

Very helpful. I have several thoughts but am tied up for a little bit so later.
Two questions in the meantime:
- does the French drain have clean-out ports, and do you know where it terminates above ground?
- where does the gutter for the coop empty?
Thank you. The French drain does not have clean-out ports (and it was done years ago by a guy who did not put any landscape fabric or - nowadays - the "pipe sock" over over it.

Yes I know where it terminates on both sides (it's around the barn in a big open U shape so it is a one-piece pipe that drains out both ends. We're going to check that it is still working on the South end. It should be draining even now without rain as basically we're on a seeping hillside. Anyway the South end of the pipe goes right to a blueberry which has loved having it there and really thrived as soon as the pipe went in.

The gutter downpipe goes to a black corrugated pipe laid along the French drain path pointed South. It has been working when it's hooked up, the slope of the drain path is gently downhill. It doesn't seem to be flooding where it empties.

Knighted? Jaffa should be the king 🤴

Where is Jaffars crown 👑
Jaffar only aspires to be a knight, under the ruling wing of Queen Aurora:

Here's the gutter setup, I hooked it up in a temporary way when I quit last night. The other hose in the trench and nearby is a length of perforated hose DH found to maybe use in the deep end of the trench.

Ugh, T minus 5 hours until Miss Poppets arrival. There are things I need to do. Specifically clean out the coop and set up some sort of isolation. There is one giant problem with that. It is pouring outside. Sigh, 30 minutes, just give me a 30 minute weather window please.
Keep miss Poppet in the house 🏠 :idunno Least until the rain stops.
