Ooooh, is she looking down her nose at the poor, wayward human servant's friend for even thinking she might have imbibed????😳😳

And that evil Eye I am getting!

My chooks have had too much BeakBook. They all talk about this one chook on there that makes drinks with the fermented fruits from trees. Mine want to try it, but haven't got a chance to (thankfully. Otherwise they'd get drunk and I don't want that).

Oh good to know! I'll wait to make any more mashes with it then.
I went the other way, I have so many moulting that I went and bought some 21% protein chick starter to give them extra protein for feather growth.

I am actually trying to get an ‘All Flock’ type feed lower in calcium for those not laying, and the Roo but a bit higher in protein.

The chick starter is a bit small crumb size for my gang and not sure if they like it or not - of course it’s only two days so far using it. I used it on their mash this morning.

I am feeding oyster shell on the side.

Here's Grandma the construction worker. She looks more like a train conductor. It's not fully finished yet but here's what I'm working with. Even if her costume is finished, don't expect her to fix your roofing and siding.

Grandma you are one awesome chook 😊💕

Mornin. Had a long night here last night, kiddo gave up her binky so I had to go help her fall back asleep at quarter til eleven. Then I was up til 2am with a kidney stone, I eventually laid on the living room floor to sleep a little because I didn't want to wake up my husband by crawling into bed.
It's raining which ruined my plans of raking up the soft pine straw, it was dry two days in a row so I thought today I could rake up a few feed bags full for the nest boxes! But nope, rainy day.
Family friend has a lot going on so I have a few more days to get things ready for the new additions. Yesterday I made a mash of chick crumble, layer pellets, spearmint and lemon balm for them. I want them to get used to the taste of the layer pellets. Shep wanted to pick them out but they got too soft so she gave up and ate with the rest.

They're getting big and beautiful!

Also hope you’re feeling better - had kidney stone before - most evil pain ever - and I have had some serious fractures to compare it with.

Check with your store. A option I have with either Rural King or TSC company is if I go through their hatchery I can special order some chicks and have them shipped to the store from the hatchery. It is a tad more pricey with chick cost but if I wanted a certain number of something and a certain breed it would be the way to go for me.
We can order as many or few and mix and match without worry of extra charges ordering through Peavey Mart on their Chickdays.ca site. I am interested in what breeds specifically I can get though. And I wonder if Hoovers can get Campines 💕

Right now the chick season is over here for winter, but I might give the store manager a call tomorrow to see what breeds they had on offer last year.

Matchmaking was not my intention. I am thrilled they have fallen for silkies but, Poppet is mine. He was so disappointed so I mentioned her brother may still be available. If he is not I told him this spring hopefully when one of his hens goes broody I will give him a few eggs from a Poppet x Branch pairing so he can raise them himself. I would say he could share the chicks with me, but yeah....that would not happen.
What no splitting chicks? I offered to share with Bob! 😆

Ooo the new birds are a black and a white silkie! I sure hope both are girls. Now to prepare my coop for silkies, I hear they prefer to sleep on the bedding instead of roosting.
Nope mine sleep 4’ up 😊 well used to before I swapped out the roosts for the single level roosting ledge I now have in place.

That white puff ball on the very top spot is Curly my frizzle silkie, she hop/flapped her way up onto the top of that nest box which is about 5’ up.

I removed everything from the Hen House and put in a single level of roosts and nest boxes below the roosting ledge.

This is what it looks like now- Marty is there in the middle she is one of the boss hens so she gets a prime spot on the ledge.

Silkies can hop/flap up but I don’t let them go up too high so they don’t get inured flying back down. ❤️💕

Gosh I can’t wait to see your new silkies 😊💕
