I don't mean to boring but I'm repeating myself now.

This guy I met once went to a market and bought a load of eggs. He checked them all out and got himself a lot of chick's. I was just fascinated

Yes, I know it's the wrong time of year but I'm just trying to grasp a way of learning about this way of getting chick's.

The couple that was going to sell me some leg bars, sold the whole flock to a greedy selfish woman and I was gutted. Maybe it was just as well because of my conditions but something is making me want to get more.

Maybe I've got a split personality 🤔 😕 🙃
Also I want to remind you of the trouble I have with hatched eggs, and the Roos I had issues getting rid of.

But then compare to Sophia’s chicks all pullets I got as day olds 💕💕💕💕 no troublesome cockerels to get rid of 🥰

I suggest getting 2 or 3 chicks 😊💕 so cute and your older girls can train them up! And no worry’s about getting bad boys 😊

Yes I am also not worried about the cold weather, Henny raised chicks hatched end of Oct a couple yrs ago, and that Nov was brutally cold, one of the coldest winters in years in fact. My worry is as always getting Roos. Chicks are tougher than we give them credit.

I will think on the Marty thing. I don’t have to use curly and fluffy eggs, I can throw 3 Marty eggs under her, I could likely throw in all the four I have from Marty. My only concern is the quality of Marty’s eggs, lately they have been odd long eggs, and a funny shell, it’s strong enough but rough textured.

And a frizzle Polish cross pullet like Floyd would be real cute, so of course a Curly egg has to be used….. Curly’s a splash like P so guess it would be splash…. Oh the dilemma of it all.

Think I will just sit on my lawn chair here and mull it all over. 😊 I have a few days I don’t have to set Penelope’s egg right away…
Make sure you turn the eggs you're considering just in case you do set them.

Help! I know I haven been around, things have been weird. But Eenie is really hurt! I hadn't noticed anything until today. She was a bit bedraggled but I've been so busy I've not paid them much attention.

Look at her poor neck! View attachment 3675428View attachment 3675429View attachment 3675430
It's like she's just been eaten! The pictures dont show how bad it is! I know it's likely Manny, with the other girls getting in some pecks. I don't have the new coop ready but I'd take Manny out if I did.

I do still have that little tiny coop. I could put her in it until she heals. I can put her where she can see the others, but not interact.

What do I do to treat her? It's all black and clotted. I didn't see any parasites or signs of infection.

Or should I just get rid of the rooster? This makes me ready to do it!

I can't really do any cleaning without help, because holding her take 1 hand, moving the feathers apart takes the second, and tending the wound takes two more! Husband works til 9 pm tonight, but tomorrow I'll have him help so I can check it out better.
For now I cleaned out the little brooder area that we still have up and put in fresh shavings, sprayed her with the vetericyn, and put her there. Poor little thing barely protested at all.

I know chickens will peck at other chickens wounds. I should isolate her, right?

I really think Manny is not long for the coop. :( Sheba's looking pretty beat up as well, but I couldn't catch her to check her over.
Yes I would isolate her at this point.

Veterycin is good. It is also good to put neosporin (without pain killer) on her wound after clean up.

I also agree with what Ponypoor said about wrapping her up in a towel to treat her if you are all by yourself.
