Here’s how I’m spending my Saturday afternoon. Dakota making a terrible mess, and Sir Jaffar off out of frame, just relaxing watching her get into trouble. IMG_3728.jpeg

OMG 😢😢😢😢😢 how tragic.

First I hope you’re not too sick. :hugs Ok now I hope you had some strong words with the neighbours.

Might be time for some electric poultry netting or maybe put up a run if you can? Darn dogs, they are far worse than fox or hawks.

Gosh… 😢 I am just gobsmacked 😢

Oh gosh I hope they are off on a nest somewhere. I am not a dog person - oh I have had my share of them and loved them, but I have had nothing but trouble from the neighborhood dogs.

These days dogs come on my property they get clobbered and if they survive sent to the SPCA I have spent 1000s of dollars on good horse fencing and if people can’t keep their dogs properly then they shouldn’t have one. It’s too expensive to treat my horses. And now with my chooks I have zero tolerance for them.

I am just so saddened for you 😢
Chia has come in. Had another scare, horde of birds streaming past the patio. I went out the door, hair brush in hand. Found the little schnauzer (down below visitor) up chasing, with the pup up too, having followed. Pup looked lost and instantly responded to my "Go HOME!" Schnauzer was looking like Sheriff Buford T. Justice in Hot Pursuit of Havoc who looped the coop and bolted past me. I took a swipe at the schnauzer with my hairbrush. Missed, but it was enough for him to stop and head home. I followed.

Schnauzer belongs to the mother of the down below neighbor. She's up visiting with his sister and nephew, getting the yard prepped for winter. The neighbor slipped and fell down the steps from his porch and everyone went running to check on him. Dogs slipped off.

Wen I came back up, I found the streaming horde (about 12 or 14 of them) sheltering under the spruce tree on the far side of the house. Only one has branches to the ground, so of course they were under that. I didn't find them until AFTER another walk down the outside of the pea tree hedge and a head count in the coop (roughly 6), and a where the heck did they all go?! (With serious head scratching). Grabbed the feed bucket and played Pied Piper of Hamlin leading them back to the coop. Hector and Cheetah were in the lot of them, along with Jessica, Nellie, Cuckoo, Lark, Indigo, Maizie, CARDHU, Shan, Blanche (or PITA, but not both, other was in coop) and a couple of others. Storm, Cumulo, Tuff, Mera, and both Brahmas were in the coop. I think Chia was in there too, but it's possible she slipped back in while I was leading the throng. Still no sign of Pear or Nimbus.

Sherlock is inquisitive about the birdies inside when I'm checking on them, but mostly leaving alone otherwise. I'm sure Whiskey will be fine. Not so sure about Twirp. However, I cannot wholly attribute that to yesterday/today's trauma. She is a tiny girl who lays extra large eggs. She's already battling thin shells, so may have some internal laying issues already causing problems. If that's the case, this might have simply hurried this process up a bit. A blessing if she's not suffering from ovarian cancer or the other internal problems with egg laying. She's such a personality that I don't want to lose her, but I don't want to see her suffer either. At the moment she's as comfortable as I can make her with Whiskey tending her.if she does pass inside, I will take both out to the coop so the others can say goodbye.

Oh no! How devastating.
:hugs :hugs
What is the plan for the dog?
I didn't ask. I work with the guy so I'm going to leave that one for now. There is a 10 acre parcel between my place and his mom's. The dog shouldn't be going that far anyway.

The ones up from down below are another matter. I get 2 seconds for life to go sideways and poof they've taken off. Those dogs didn't kill anyone this time. They're saying I need to fence the coop. And they're probably right. However they still need to keep the dogs home. One went over to the place with the cows while I was down there. Those folks have chickens that range at least part of the time also. I had Cheetah fly from the ledge above Castor's house, across the patio AND the pavers under the arbor, across the sidewalk and land next to the flower barrels. If he can fly that far from a 4' ledge (plus the patio step up), the ridge the coop is on will be no problem to get a launch from to go down the hill, over any fence. Lark and/or Indigo has been on the ROOF of the coop. Again, how to fence that? While including at least SOME of the trees for them?

You have far more tolerance than I, there would have been words said. For the love of god why do they just leave the dogs either at HOME or in the darn house.

I am just so sad by this whole situation, are you still feeling chilled ? Or are you feeling a bit better.

As for Twirp, remember shock is a killer, warm and quiet and dark would be good, maybe some pain meds - a half low dose aspirin would be fine, and from what I have read of they do have reproductive issues it helps with that by reducing inflammation. I am so glad Whiskey is with her, that will comfort her.

Gosh these darn dog owners…. 🤬🤬🤬
