My chooks can only free range in the yard supervised because we have a disproportionate amount of predator activity, for a small city yard :barnie, so I get them out like twice a week.View attachment 3682197
Fez, despite being happy that today was one of those days, still prefers meal worms to earth worms.View attachment 3682199They ended up dodging a couple of Cooper’s hawk dive-bombs. Alas.

And I couldn’t figure out the best way to add a video? So here is a still photo of an interesting phenomena. My two pullets, bottom of the pecking order, kept harassing the dog! Trying to steal her “treat” (she was just chewing on a stick), chasing then posing tall near her, and pecking at her butt and legs. She’s getting hen pecked! And not following the proper pecking order rules of loser runs away- she just stands submissively taking it. Poor girl.

Poor puppy 😊💕

My cat is terrified of the chickens ever since one of them chased her.

My gang only gets outside when I am home, otherwise the barn is their domain. I also have a lot of predators here both ground and aerial.

So as soon as I let the chooks out of the coop, Sheenfeather went straight for my shoelaces and wouldn't let up. I told her that my shoelaces were not food, but she still went at them. I then noticed that there was paint on them from painting yesterday. Moral of the story? Never have paint on you shoes. (Trust me, soon I had chickens flocking all around my feet, and they were pecking ANKLES too.)

And Ijak in mid-crow.
I noticed Larry grew in an all black feather also 😊 must be some weird cuckoo pattern thing.

Good morning everyone. We made it home at 5:30 this morning. Last night was amazing. I loved every minute of it. More importantly to me, Rosie and mom also loved every second. Rosie shocked me, she is so self conscious I did not expect her to sing along. She let loose and sang every song. I will not be hearing a 1000 mom's today, she lost her voice.
Awesome! So glad you all could let loose 😊💕❤️

Just sitting here (cold fingers brrr!), watching the chooks out and about, such a nice day for November.

These days the sun is so low in the sky - it’s almost 3:30pm, he shadows are long.

Red Hen isn’t doing well, she is winding down. Last night I kept her here in the feedroom where it’s warm. I made a nice bed for her in a small box full of shavings which she can snuggle in. I have been pushing the pain meds to her, I called my small animal vet to see how much to euthanize her, $300 - so that’s not an option unfortunately.

The horse vet needs to come out and float teeth this week so maybe he can do it for me. I’ll have to call tomorrow and find out. Basically I am doing palliative care with her. She still goes for the treats and was giving some really good hard pecks to the others who were trying to steal a cookie I was trying to give her, she can still growl and warn them off - good old girl.
