OH NO! Speak of the devil. Glad you were there to intervene. How did it pin her against the fence with the netting in the way?
Because this happened when the netting wasn’t everywhere and down to the ground within the electric fencing, and they were out of the wired runs but within the fencing. It was a very determined hawk.

l have a dilemma. I have 9 cockerels that hatched this year, and I can only keep 1. I know you can't make the decision for me, but I will share my young boys with you anyways, as I struggle with this decision.

So, here are the contenders:

Contender #1

Contender #2 (@RoyalChick - I think he has a carnation comb)View attachment 3686527View attachment 3686528

Contender #4 Was not overly cooperative

Contender #6
(the one on the right with the leakage of red in his feathers)

Contender #7 ( he has more white in the barring - particularly at the nape of the neck, than contender #5)

Contender #8

I don't have a picture for #9 - he is the youngest.
I can’t choose. But what are your criteria anyway? Feathering, body type for future chicks? Temperament?

What qualities are you wanting to add to your flocks? How are each with the ladies (preferably with out the others around)? If you're simply looking for eye candy, which one is the most different in appearance from the rest of your flocks? Which one is is most genetically distant from the rest of your birds?

Mr P update

He is doing great, the meds are spin their thing, his skin is pretty well cleared and not inflamed anymore, and no nasty smell.

I am continuing the amoxicillin 250mg BID (twice daily), and Tylenol BID.

Also the antibiotic ointment applied to ear and skin. I may stop that after tomorrow, also may stop the morning Tylenol and see how he does - right now he is good and frisky again with the ladies.

Sounds like he’s doing well! Good job. Is his ear still draining? I was remembering that not long ago you noted he was acting off, a little stand-off-ish, right? Thought to be due to molting, which he was, and now I’m wondering if this wasn’t also going on, and he really wasn’t feeling well too. They can be so inscrutable!

Yes good observation 😊💕

I would say he was definitely not well and didn’t want to have anything to do with any of the pullets shinanigans. Today I noticed him prancing down the yard with 3 of the pullets in tow, and then a bunch more of the ladies joined him. He is definitely feeling better.

There was no drainage from his ear today, and the skin was good, no redness no weeping. And I notice his breath also is better. He always had this weird breath, I put it down to being male, many of the animals smell different between the different genders.
