Hey Michelle, how are you going? Been thinking of you with all the fires going on. :hugs
Aw, thanks, Lozzy! I’m fine... for a few days there, I was pretty stressed we might have to evacuate, but at the moment, things are looking good. I’m so grateful!
My three sickies (Ruby with hormone-driven issue controlled with implants, Roxy with bleeding intestines that made her anemic, and Dorothy who has trouble making eggshells properly) are all still with us and seem to be doing relatively well. Except for the molters, the others seem pretty good, also. I’m raising three chicks in the kichen since my broody, Little Mill, rejected them.

Work is as busy as ever (had a board meeting tonight). My son went back to college. I started my first veggie garden (can you believe I am 50 and have just started this now???) I’m tired and a little edgy, but also so thankful to have my health, my family, my friends, my flock and a job. 2020 is the most bizarre year... one for the books!

I hope you are doing well and will try to sift through all the posts I’ve missed and catch up.

Bob, I'd love to read the papers. Can you share the refs in due course?
Same here. Bob, you know I was a molecular biologist (but I only have a bachelor degree, so never held the title of “Scientist”) before my second child was born, right? I specialized in fluorogenic PCR assay development and had the good fortune of working on proprietary prototype instruments at two different companies... SO FUN. I still love science, even though I gave up that career 16 years ago and now I’m a glorified secretary (executive assistant) in public education. :lau

Hi ACM, is Edwina a pure-bred Copper Marans? Where did you get her?
She was sold to me as an Easter Egger chick. I think she is Copper Marans x Araucana but I don't really know for sure.

Edit:
I got her from the local saddlery /feed store. They keep their own birds

One Year Ago Today

As you all know, I like to do look backs. A year ago today was a very significant day. It was Eve's open heart surgery. We were so blessed that it all went so well. As proof, here is Eve from yesterday showing off her mobility.

Look at her go! So adorable.

I love watching toddlers walk. They always look like drunks! 🤣

Thank you! What kind of hen is Pepper with all that green? It is lovely. Edwina with the copper color is also lovely of course!
Again, not sure. I think Pepper is Australorpe x Araucana. Her eggs are very slightly greener than Alice's. It is hard to tell them apart.

Pepper joined us as a pullet so I don't have baby photos unfortunately. ☹

I’ve been checking out Libby’s Heritage Chickens in Tahmoor...

Both your black girls are lovely. I just want to reach through the computer and pick up and snuggle Edwina. It is so hard to photograph a black chicken. I have over a 1000 pic's of my marans and Toothless for that matter for just a few good ones. One's where their colors really shine through because as i've learned, there's more to them than just a black chicken. If you look and get them in the right light they sparkle like gemstones.

They do don't they? 🤗

What are you thinking of getting Lozzy?

(She asks innocently...😇)
