We have bald eagles here that nest close by. There was a couple, then last year they had a juvenile, and it is still around although normally I think he should have left for his own territory. They do take chickens, just pick them and fly off, and the ones we have here are not afraid of humans at all. I’ve had the disturbing experience of one swooping for a chicken when I was just three or four meters behind and it was difficult to make it leave. Beautiful birds in the sky, strikingly ugly close up.

Two for Tuesday pictures :
Théo and Piou-piou don't get along every day, but today they were sweethearts.

A very close, though undesired, two in the nest situation for Nieva and Mélisse. (My coop is an old stable in our basement and some of the nests are holes in the walls, like this one.)

Nieva and Lulu. Lulu started laying last week at 29 weeks ! Like @Sally PB's Robin, on the coop's floor. Not an issue for me, as long as it's not under the roost !

Oh, thank you so much for letting me know, I have been making this stupid translation mistake forever ! (And likely I have yet to discover a bunch of others. I am still not over calling my track barrow a thermal barrow 😂). No, then you are definitely right, we don't have bald eagles here. They have been spotted a few times in the last 20 years and every time it seems it was either a mistake or they were birds held in captivity that escaped. So I was indeed talking about golden eagles.

Well, for golden eagles actually. And maybe don't tell the chickens to run, since I just learned on Shadrach's thread they chase mostly by tracking movement, which is why sometimes chickens freeze on spot instead of running to hide.

I also feel responsible for a terrible chicken death. I try to balance that feeling by reminding myself that she had mostly a very good life.

Some wattles for Wednesday. I know it's not really a FBA thing but the weather is so grey today that it sounded like the easy way out.

Talking about raptor birds, I just saw a red-tailed hawk out! Chickens freeze on spot? Clever, but my chooks seem to run to the mulberry bush.

See?

And a good profile of tailless Cheetah. May his splendor grow back quickly.
