IT'S SO COLD! That doesn't show wind chill. That's -2 right now!

🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶

Currently -18F, wind chill feels like -35F. Either way it feels REALLY COLD! Even Sherlock doesn't want to be out much (inspite of being a bundle of energy).

I can say that those blue heated pet water bowls work. The water is still LIQUID.

Coop is staying closed until after daylight. I called off work. Headcount 25 again....I think....They're snuggled in so close together its hard to count...even some of the "don't come near me" are sandwiched together.
Okay...not as cold as you!

But still freaking cold!

Someone is common to get the Randy Rooster soon. Or at least she said she was. I've had 3 people say they want him. One doesn't want to come til it's warmer next week, which I totally understand. But one said she's coming tonight. We'll see. It needs to be after dark so we can pluck him from the roost. Of course, she was supposed to be here by now. :/

I think I'm leaving the pop door closed tomorrow. That wind coming in has to be cold. If I leave it closed they won't have the draft at floor level, but lots of air flow because of the windows. Thoughts?

I hate this weather! I am not a cold weather person.

Haha I screen shot your last instructions…. *delete, retake screenshot*
It's a rough "recipe": eggs and as much flour as necessary to stick together without sticking to the rolling pin. Rolled on floured surface to however thin you want/can get it/have room for. Cut thin, then tossed in more flour, sitting to get more solid outer edges. Scoop into bubbling broth (with all the veggies/meat in it) and simmer until done. The noodles will stick together some, so figure 20 min ISH on the cook time (until cooked through).

FBF: Perry wastes no time hopping up onto my shoulder now! I’m her safe space, that’s for sure. I’m both thoroughly delighted by that, and saddened that she hasn’t carved much of a spot for herself in the flock yet.

Six of seven chooks all gathered for the mealworm rain :)

It’s been cold here! I don’t have power up to the coop or run so I’ve had to chisel out their water bowl and fill it warm again three times today. Will do it once more before they go to bed.
Also doing the same for the hummingbird feeders:

Well we are all hunkered down here in B.C. with -5 to -15c weather which is highly unusual for us. I spent the morning hand watering everyone and chasing the three ducks that left the coop as I was attempting to slip feed in. They hid under the goat shelter and I had to shoo them out with a rake while lying on the frozen solid mud puddles. 🤦‍♀️ I still don’t know how everyone with real winters handles this sort of stuff every year… and I’m highly thankful that it never lasts very long for us. Definitely reminds me of why I don’t really want to buy that perfect little cattle farm up north! 😂 I’m just not cut out for this weather.

What I have managed to get done is putting up half a fence to separate the chickens from the goats in the field, and I picked up some lumber and built a quick bedframe to get my mom up off the floor. So far she’s happy with it. View attachment 3724606View attachment 3724607
I have some interior pictures of the Poultry apartment from cleaning it out, featuring Tailless, Outside Chicken, and my Bully Girl…View attachment 3724610View attachment 3724611View attachment 3724612View attachment 3724613
When we moved all the chickens were in the low red transport crates for meat birds, and I put the ducks into three large dog crates. They all travelled in the bottom duck compartment, and the empty waterers, feeders, and other light chicken items, some rakes etc were moved in the upper portion. The roosts are only screwed down to the door side leg supports, and just resting on the 2x4 rail attached to the framing on the front half. So far it’s working well for everyone, and except for Arlene (my Eagle victim/rescue girl from another farm) everyone is roosting where they are supposed to. I caught and have locked Arlene in with the rest for tonight. I’m not sure where she’s been going up at night, but she’s been going to bed before I have a chance to grab her most evenings… and I think she was lucky to survive last nights cold snap and snow son her own.
Wow you are amazing Kris - you’re an excellent carpenter 🥰

And wow those temps are down right horrid! I sure hope the temps don’t last very long for you.

Arlene sounds like she is a handful, and a tough old bird 😊
