I noticed that, too! My first year of chickens, I had all clean butts. Now almost noone does, even though I think I’ve gotten the excess fat situation under control. Why is that?
Here it is heat related. They get loose stools from drinking all the water to stay cool. That messes the feathers and things start to cling. I have been trying to let them clean themselves up but it is taking too long. Hattie and Aurora are going to need help. Sydney and Sansa have gotten it cleaned up on their own.

Late last night when I got home, Ester (fake BR who is probably a Cuckoo Marans despite the very low level of brown pigment on her eggs) was sitting in the corner where she lays. This will be a huge pain if she’s gone broody and has decided to try to set in that spot.
Welcome to the club. It's not one we all choose to be in. The choice is made for us by others. 😆

Ah, good point. Lucky needs serious help. I better get on it before she starts molting. After our last heat wave (110° on Sunday!) it’s not going to break 80° for at least ten days, per the forecast on my phone app. Weirdest. Year. Ever.

This time of year, they are going through quite a bit of water.

How bout these tiny fluffy butts for today 😁
