She should be two kinds: a chicken one and a math one.One of the most amazing things ever! We should call you Doc!
(I still don't like math though. Unless it's chicken math.)

Sounds like it's time for some repairs. Get the drill and saw out and get to work.It is bolted to the manger - with rusty bolts that won't come off - it is somewhere around 40+ years old. The guy who originally owned this house logged with horses...he had a horrible accident and died shortly thereafter in the early to mid 80s (vehicle accident - hit by a drunk driver when he was transporting his horses - the story goes)
And, teh DC girls are lower on the pecking order and get tossed off the nests - and she will hop back into any nest that has eggs - hence they won't hatch- hence why I usually have them brood in my broody house - but it needs repairing - and maybe refiguring.![]()
This is kind of cool.Because underneath, she's not a black bird, but a partridge color (I think).
Check out my post. Much more complicated than that.Legbar. Leg=Leghorn, Bar=Barred Rock.
Double Doc!She should be two kinds: a chicken one and a math one.

I did read it. As far as I know that's what the name means though.Check out my post. Much more complicated than that.
My opinion, thinking of their mental well-being - Bert and Betty are so young, and she will hardly be laying yet, they both might benefit stress-wise by having their hatch mate buddy and their broody mama around with them during this time, even if right now they aren't spending all their time with each other, because you're going to be imposing a big change, confining a bunch of the flock and disrupting the usual routines they expect. Just a thought.Yes that is my hope, next month the silkies will be sequestered in the Summer House with the borrowed silkie Roo, Mr Bert will be on his own at that point. I am trying to decide if I will keep Betty with the silkies or with the main gang.
I have my calendar set for the 18th of March to bring Mr Silkie here. He will stay for about 6 weeks. 3 weeks to get the girls used to him, and for the girls to get rid of any of Mr P’s genetic material. And three weeks to get eggs together for my niece - hopefully no one goes broody!!
Henny should be good and done with being broody, Marty also should be ok, Fluffy and Curly are just finishing moulting so hopefully they have no desire to go broody!
If any of the other girls in my main herd go broody I might get some Peavey chicks. I won’t hatch my own chicks. I aim tired of dealing with cockerels, I will have to deal with the eggs my niece hatches at her school though.
No, I would rather not have to do surgery again It was extremely stressful - I did it because if I didn't try, she would have died - so I hoped to give her a chance, but I was so afraid I would kill her with surgery. She should be two kinds: a chicken one and a math one.

Well then, just a math one. Which is just fine. No, I would rather not have to do surgery again![]()
