I have a hunch Agathae will be a fantastic mother.
Dawn is committed! I just have yet to see, when she has chicks, what she will do with them.
I've heard stories where the mom kills her chicks as soon as they hatch. I don't get that sense from Dawn, but it's completely possible. Oh well, I guess there's nothing I can do about it but hope she doesn't do that.

It's more for Agathae then me. I feel she's not going to quit the broody stuff until she gets what she's thinking of. Last year she almost died trying to hatch chicks. This year I'm sure she's going to do it again. It seems to be a hill she's willing to die on.
Well go to the feed store and get a couple day old pullets and shove under her next week.

Sophia was like that, and the minute I put those chicks under her it was like a little get switch - she perked up and started chortling to the babies. I will definitely give her a couple more chicks if she goes broody this summer - she was an amazing mama.

Not had that happen here thankfully!

But then I have been careful who gets wee ones. For instance I would not likely give Raven babies if she was broody. But then again she would likely be a ferocious mama and protect those babies well!

Not certain when the feed store gets chicks or stuff like that. I can only hope they have Speckled Sussex. My only issue is that there might be foreign germs that the Bigs might not take kindly too, but I'm probably going to have to do that, or take a gamble and pop eggs under that creature.

I have Handel on right now, but I can hardly handel this broody nonsense.

Babs is totally fed up with Tassels and her antics and stalks her whenever I haul her out of the nest box. And in turn Tassels just goes for Sylvie, who as far as I can see has had almost nothing to do with her!
Oh wow! Babs must really be annoyed! She always seems so tolerant!

Can you put Tassels outside out of sight when you haul her off the nest?

When are you heading out ? Hopefully she is getting over her shenanigans by then, I had to finally give up with Dorothy a couple yrs ago. She was a total beast wouldn’t eat or drink and everyone was jumping on her when I took off the nest. Thankfully she got off the nest after about 3.5 weeks. And hasn’t been broody since haha!

Dawn is broody. I set her up with some eggs, she seems to be taking care of herself. I check her crop every day just in case though, and also yank her out of the nest box (actually a cat carrier) to poop.

Hope she is a good mother. But I just figured, Tomatilla never went broody after raising chicks last year. I thought that maybe Dawn wouldn't go broody if she raised chicks this year. Maybe try that with Agathae?
I thought that with Henny Penny 😁 she raised her first brood her first year and then didn’t go broody again. So it worked! Ok well for a while it worked as we all know she went broody last Nov.

But hey I had 1.5 years of quiet from her 👍

I have pips.

I believe I told you about my next batch of incubator chicks?

Well, yeah, they went into lockdown yesterday and now, well, I have... let's see... seven or eight pips. Two are in green eggs.

I also took photos of Batch "B" but still have to upload them.
Congratulations! Take lots of photos, I am living vicariously through you.

What date did you order chicks for?

I wonder if I can rent out a broody???you know, have the mamas raise the chicks then when they get all grown give them back to their owner 😊 that way I get my baby fix and so does mama hen. But I don’t have to keep the chook!
If that worked Goose and Lilly would be on their way tomorrow. Goose has been broody and sitting on nothing for almost 2 weeks now. Lilly is on day 2. Goose is also a proven broody, protective but will not kill her human. I have thought about it and decided to stand firm. Not hatching anything this year until Poppet starts laying. After that, all bets are off.
