I’ve been asking around and there is someone else on BYC whose AC’s died around 6 weeks too. Two of her friends also had AC’s who died around the same age. My last baby is six weeks as of today. Hopefully she isn’t found dead tomorrow by my chicken sitter.
I wonder if it has something to do with blood lines? Or maybe they are just really difficult to raise to adulthood?
It takes time. Our newest 3 Silkies around 6 months old are staying away from the established flock of 3 older hens that range 4 to 7 yrs old. Near each other but not pushing a full integration.I’m having trouble getting the ones I do have to integrate with each other. It’s like water and oil so far.![]()
Oh no! How terrible for you and her. Chickens can be down right cruel.
I am sorry you had to have this happen.

I never mind if the hens dig up a lil' herb! Its good for them. They like to hide under my old lavender bush, which needs to be put out of its misery, but the hens love it soOn a happier note - thyme is good for chickens. So is oregano.![]()
Yep, pet ownership, especially chicks, kittens, puppies, etc, takes time and patience. Look how long it takes to raise a human baby - much much longer than a few weeks!Screw u. Maybe one of you can come over and feed the little devil darlings I have, while I continue on with my life, and not be so featherly handicapped!

Have you seen the shot glass method to fix splay legs?School chickie update
I now have the one ‘spraddle leg’ chick here, along with a friend. I borrowed the incubator to house them in as my brooder plate is in use with my bantam chicks, who use it at night.
I have placed hobbles on the wee chickie, did some leg stretching, and then positioned her in an upright position wrapped in a towel.

Be careful people. Use eye protection when handling your little ones. Two of mine jumped up on my shoulder together, and one pecked my eye hard. My eyesight cost $3k per eye for cataract surgery. My fault for dropping my guard for only seconds!
Yes, but there is more going on than spraddle legs. I feel her hips are dislocated or in some way malformed.Have you seen the shot glass method to fix splay legs?
