ooohhh, I like this tax! It not only shows her height, but (quite elegantly/not in your face) shows her fluffy bottom, too! 😍
I know - it was a lucky shot - she was striding down the path like she owned the place.
Oh. Wait. She basically does!
I didn't cut paths last year and I think they didn't benefit as much from the tall weeds because it was so dense. Only Piglet is really small enough to march into the center of the growth. The paths are hugely popular. I may cut some more for them this weekend

Well tomorrow I pick I the school chicks - I wonder what they kids have named them all this year 😊♥️

I am immediately rehoming the blue egg chicks, the silkies I am thinking of holding onto. Seeing if I can get a gender test done with then. I don’t want to clip a toe nail short they are so timely, maybe grab some breast feathers as they come in-?

But if one is a pullet I may keep it.
Remember your chicken maths Kelly my dear :D

Hey everyone, popping in for a update.

Right now 9 have hatched. All 6 of poppet's eggs have hatched. I have also had a white curly chick hatch and Fluffy's egg hatched. The fluffy chick, I am guarded on it's prognosis. It had difficulty hatching, and lost some blood in the process. That alone makes for a weak chick, but now several hours later it is evident it also has splayed legs. Crap, I have never dealt with splayed legs. I am giving it a few more hours to regain strength from its difficult hatch and then I have to make hobbles for it. I will give it a shot as long as it has fight in it. Also all these chicks shall be referred to as girls, and temporarily given girl names until proven otherwise. That said, Adele, is a little punk. Her favorite past time is pecking toes and pulling feathers on her siblings. It is a boy, I just know it, but praying otherwise. That one is claimed by Rosie, and she is rooting for a boy now. She adores @Ponypoor young man Bert. She knows to get one with Bert's coloring it has to be a boy. Someone needs to talk some sense into my daughter and fast.
She's only following her Mama Rebecca 😉

I'm curious as to what you have planted in the 'chicken garden/outdoor run?' I just got some blueberry bushes to plant where they will have a 'pasture', and a dwarf everbearing mulberry bush/tree (2), and two different haskaps -- these latter will go in the main run. They are bushy plants ( related to honey suckle, but berries are edible by humans, too) that I'm hoping will eventually grow at the base of an arbor that will have grapes growing over it to create shade in the summer AND 'foraging feed' in the fall as the berries (that the human doesn't pick) fall.

Eventually, the 'primary' run they are in now will, hopefully, become just the winter run, and I will have 2 real 'pasture runs' plus as we get our small orchard going, that will be fenced in and the chickens can cycle through that, to, at select times (there will be a blueberry section within one end for humans - the chickens will be allowed in their AFTER the harvest to sratch through the leaf bedding for bugs & drops).

But, alas - long tern plans/dream. Little time at the present to make noticable progress on the main run, never mind anything else. *sigh*
