Took Sherlock down to the river today to get him past his dislike of water.

Backstory: he fell into the pool at the breeder's the day I brought him home. Hasn't wanted to get his feet wet (got him ok with puddles and water in face). Haven't really had opportunities to go swimming, so made one today. At the remotish campsite, discovered someone had left their campfire burningView attachment 3893989
Ring is on other side of the stacked wood. And a log outside the ring also still going. Had a jug of water in the rig, so dowsed the fire, refilled at the river...twice, then dowsed again just before we left.

I went wading, he came to join me, then got curious. Out came the frisbee....

TY for preventing a fire danger!

Sherlock was just too frickin' ADORABLE! How great that he trusted you so much!

Candled eggies. Incubator eggs are probably done, but they get until Sunday before anything happens.
Broody eggs 8/8 had little eyeball shrimpies in there. I showed hubby and he swears one of them was wriggling. ☺️
I only got a pic of one polish egg.

And it turned out blurry! But there was an eyeball baby in there I swear! We even saw them inside the dark cochin eggs!
Now to resist candling again until Sunday. My dear broodies are very sweet and tolerant but I don't want to risk hurting the chickys.

My peppermint seeds took off so I put this right next to the coop. Don't worry, it'll be kept in line haha...we won't lose the yard to mint. I plan on training the vine up the wire to give the ladies a refreshing snack.
Here are some lovely lilies to leave y'all with.

That is a perfect egg, day 5 right? ♥️

If your incubator eggs don’t look like that then they likely are not going to develop, wise to wait till Sunday though. I have my fingers crossed for you.

Good going on your eggies keeping us posted! Your DH is so cute embracing the whole journey :)

I love Peppermint plants and keep mine in container pots. However, somehow a Spearmint shoot sprouted unknown/unwanted in our raised garden bed and it grew like cancer! Took me two seasons to dig and be totally rid of that invasive Spearmint that shot under the brick and paver stones and we couldn't use weed killer next to our garden or near the chickens!

Some lilies are toxic to chickens but I don't know enough about them to know which ones are ok or which ones aren't. I know daffodils are best kept away from chickens.

Both of them were or well on their way to being drunk. It is no excuse though, even drunk my dad knew which chickens were mine and which were his. I had the only 2 Dominique's in a slew of red and white chickens. We can call that uncle all the names we like though, I do. Thankfully he was only a uncle by marriage and my Aunt finally divorced him a few years ago. When I was around him, he actually made me despise my own name. As long as I can remember he called me Becker Pecker like it was a cute nickname. Every family has a member who you could go a whole lifetime without seeing again, he is mine.

Rebecca is a really beautiful name

It is an ancient biblical name that is for sure.

Check out these chickies - those silkies sleep under the brooder plate and the wee ones on top. It not plugged in so no heat.

Wife of Isaac and mother to Jacob and Esau. A good Old Testament tale full of deceit and intrigue! Worth a read.
But mostly I think of Daphne duMaurier’s Rebecca. Also worth a read.

Rebecca tax: Poor Tassels in her cage.
