I agree with @featherhead007 we need more Mr. P!
Ric Flair needs inspiration to grow up to be a good roo!

Yes. I think this could work.
What I have at the moment is one end of the cage resting on a triangular piece of framing for the coop that acts as the doorstep for the chicken door. That is solid and horizontal - so the only issue is that of course it is like a floor so doesn't allow for air flow and as you can see in the picture, Tassels makes sure to sit herself at that end! Then I put a combination of tree stumps and bits of lumber and other 'stuff' to prop up the other end more or less at the same level. Nothing in the Chicken Palace is flat (except the triangular bit of framing on the right of the picture) so it really is a bit dangerous. I dug a bit to flatten the dirt for the tree stump and the scrap 6x6 that are the main supports. It has lasted constant use this summer so not too bad apparently!
If I want to use the dog crate for other things I would have to make the supports removable.
Also, why not just clip the crate to chains directly rather than having a 2x4 frame? Would it be strong enough? I could clip it with a carabiner in each corner to 4 chains that go up to the ceiling.
Hmmm. Lots to think about.
In your sketch the 4 chains go vertically up to 4 separate anchor points. Any reason I couldn't have them go up to just one or two anchor points on the ceiling? Still a chain in each corner of the crate but fewer ceiling anchors.

And WTH? More eggs on the floor. And whose eggs? That is the third blue egg today. Can Calypso really be laying again so soon.
My chickens are weird!
Off out to collect those eggs and look at the rafter situation.
I don't see any reason why you couldn't clip a chain to each corner and connect them to 2 anchor points. It will move more, but as long as the chains are the same number of links long, the 2 ceiling anchor points would keep it level inspite of the ground's grade.. the 2 x 4s allowed us to take the bed down easily if we needed to and assisted with support for a human weight body. If the cage tries going flimsy, the 2x4 under it would help stabilize it, but could be done later if needed.

I do think you are right on this. I've told @Ponypoor many times that her flock is too big for 1 rooster. Bert and Mr Pompeii will eventually work out out. They need each other.
Too risky to poor Mr P 😢

After what happened last year to Pretty Boy Floyd….. I don’t dare risk it.

Well, what d’ya know? There is some very tempting looking roof framing right above where the cage is. And if the cage was up against the 6x6 and hardware cloth ‘wall’ on the right, it wouldn’t even be able to move around much.

And still get plenty of airflow on all sides. I like!

Condolences to those grieving losses.
So glad Rosie was able to get the care she needed. I hope the situation can be resolved to everyone's satisfaction.

Alinta is broody again, sitting on a fake egg. I am letting her sit (not hatch) because she is a terror otherwise.
Rosie resumed laying this week.
Sunday night we went up a nearby mountain to see the meteor shower and caught a good aurora show too. My camera isn't good enough to photograph it unfortunately, but got some pics before it got dark.

Aren't you the clever lass! A crotcheted egg-gatherer! I LOVE it! Do u use patterns or your own natural creativity?

An apron for us would be more than we needed because we have only 5 laying Silkies and two of them are 4 yrs old & probably lay only 1 more yr. DH & I need only a smallish cushy pouch we could hang on the coop w/ inside criss-cross dividers for 4 eggs maximum -- the criss cross pockets inside the smallish pouch would cushion each collected egg ~ but commercial egg collection containers are way too big for our needs and/or not cushioned. I can't sew for myself any more or I would've made one out of padded quilted material long ago (I don't crotchet & now can't sew ~ arthritis)!

Those babies are so darn cute! Why do they grow so darn FAST?!
