Here is her fart egg next to her normal egg!

Hubby says he hopes our sebright is a girl and lays eggs this tiny. I told him quail lay that size and he said "you aren't getting no dang quail!" Haha. One of his coworkers is trying to convince him to get ducks, but no way am I cleaning ponds twice a day with my current health!

My knee is slowly healing, I've been wearing my brace and taking painkillers. My other one hurts too, the bruises are fading at least. I recommend watching where you walk on old decks, the one time I rushed I fell through!
I'm glad to hear your knee is improving. :thumbsup

Apples!

Found a squirrel chewed apple on dad's apple tree (which he only has one of and makes plenty of apples 🤷) threw it in.
Kasumi got between Samara and her babies and almost lost an eye! Now she's doing the whole lower hen bow and freeze whenever Samara walks by.

Morinth is very upset with the little polish as it won't stop dustbathing, even for apple. I'll have to go check it later, it wasn't walking on it's feet, but waddling using the whole leg. Could have just been in dustbath mode though.

She was pecking it like she wanted it to stop rolling around and come eat apple!

Good dirt for bathing though
They get loaded down with dirt and they walk funny when they aren’t used to it. First time I saw this I was a bit panicked!

Oh that’s too bad, it’s a fabulous video.

Maybe do a search for Nature of Things.

DH got the faucet lock idea from the Elks Lodge president who said he got tired of the homeless filling up their 5-gal plastic bottles & wasting water by not turning it off all the way costing the Lodge too much $$$. I'll have DH take a picture of the lock cuz I don't take one-handed pics very well!

Meanwhile here's the lock we have ~ bolt cutters can't be used on this faucet lock! There's even a video showing how it works.

Very interesting hose bib lock 🤔

Class photos of the 4 I managed to catch. By the time I was done I had so much poo on my shirt I didn't bother catching the butterbirds...and no way was I risking my eyes trying to get the wee bitties.

Snuggled for a while and then my knee twinged so it was time to let go and fly away.

Yes, he was biting me haha.
You will need to trim their head feathers otherwise they won’t be able to see, they need to see to learn how to fly and run. I trimmed Clyde-ettes coiffe the other day, will do Georgie tomorrow so she can see better. She is having trouble hopping up on my knee.

Magic Chicken

I have always talked about how I feel that white chickens are magic. Doesn't matter how messy they get..... Poof!....... they are white again in a flash.

Well our little Aster is not only a mystery chicken, she is even more magical than the typical white chicken.

Aster can make herself disappear.

Earlier today Aster disappeared. We were frantic. Checking everywhere in the yard, trees, bushes, coops, any place a chicken could hide were searched. We could not find her anywhere.

There were no signs of a predator. The flock was unconcerned. No one was hiding like there was a hawk attack. There were no clumps of white feathers on the ground.

I checked outside the yard. I walked the neighborhood looking for her just in case she flew the fence. Nope, no sign of her.

No sign of Aster anyplace.

So I grabbed the mealworms. Threw some out. Everyone else came to snack. No Aster.

So we gave up and hoped she would turn up.

An hour later.......Poof!....... she reappears!

It's Magic!!!

She's acting like nothing was wrong.

The little turd.

What a little poop! Hmmm she’s small enough she can hop up anywhere and have a snooze where you can’t see. Mrs Little Chicken did that - she flew up on the boards in the summer house and I couldn’t see her. I just happened to see her hop down otherwise her spot would remain a secret 😊

Yup, you guessed it. Calypso spotted that I had put Tassels in jail, and so the favored nesting box was available to occupy. Worse, Piglet provided an egg to sit on.
Calypso has moved back in to sit on Piglet's egg.
She will have to sit for a few days until Tassels gives up, and then I will get the body armor out again to remove her.
Geez. CHICKENS!!!!
If I had known how this would play out I would have designed the in-coop broody box/hospital with a mesh floor so I could use it as a broody jail. There is plenty of room for the dog-crate jail, but it is not the most stable of structures. I keep wondering if it would be safer if I hung it on a long chain from the rafters like I do the food and water. Hmmm.
Can you put a raised mesh floor in the hospital/broody box? Stand 2X4s on edge, put wire over the top, and 'slip it in' the hospital. If you have an opening large enough to get it in/out (and enough height - which I think you have - for the elevated floor - it should work okay. Might not provide enough 'breeze/draft' on really hot days, but should work otherwise. You could always slip an ice pack under it on the floor ( wouldn't touch them, but might provide a bit of a cooler environment - would still be a few inches from their feet/mesh - so I don't think it would be too cold/cruel...just enough to lower the ambient temp a bit.)

Of course, this idea goes out the window if you don't have a wide 'human access/door' that will fit apremade mesh 'floor' through to slip on top of the solid floor to create a broody jail.:idunno:idunno

View attachment 3919671Something like this. (Not taking time to figure out how to blank screen that).

Red is bed (or in your case the cage and could be zip tied to the 2x4s), blue the 2x4s, and the black/yellow the eyebolts and chains. We had those C shaped links with the screw thing to close the C connecting the chains and eyebolts.
Oh, and here I thought she was just trying out the dreadlock look!:gig:gig:gig
