Those look like Whisky Jacks (Grey Jays) but they are a northern country bird so I am not sure if they would be down your way. I see them here only in the winter.

They are super friendly and learn fast to ‘train’ us Hoomans to feed them.
Search by color and long tail beings up Loggerhead Shrike. Call doesn't fit. Northern Shrike juvenile call fits, but they're a winter bird here (supposedly). Both are uncommonly seen here.

My homestead is still kind of under development and with this many gardens and chickens, I don't always have time for wood cutting. I still need it so it sometimes results in running around in -40 (celsius- it's the same as Fahrenheit) and getting my nose frozen off. It's all part of life I guess
You just need to tap into the closest LNG pipeline running near you 🤭😉

I gave up using wood many yrs ago. We just use propane now for the furnace. I would like to get an insert for the Woodstove so we can use it for heat. But they are expensive.

I will look those up.

There are many birds here, many migrants that are starting to leave now. But surprisingly many year round.

Finally home from our 4 hour trip to the big box store for window trim and hardware cloth (and frozen custard, got to get when the chance arises after all.) We're changing into clothes we don't care about getting poop on, then it's chicken catchin' time.

Unsurprisingly, the 3 we locked out of the little coop have stubbornly refused to enter the big coop and are perched at the top of the ladder in the run. Red Leader is the only one with sense. Plan of attack is Eenie (by far the gentlest hen) then Red Leader. Then Meanie and Sheba. Then tackle the 3 in the run. Hopefully no actual tackling will be necessary. :fl
Sorry for the chuckle but I have been doing wrangling today with three - make that 4 birds I want to just clobber!

Like it won't come soon enough, you have to start moaning about it on Sept. 1st?????:lau Let fall happen - it is my favorite season!!

I've got to get new pics of the babies - these are a good week old!
It’s been cold and windy all day here. Brrrr! Yesterday it was hot and humid summer. Today it was cold breezy autumn. Ridiculous the wild swings this year.

That wasn't nearly chore I'd feared! Six trips, 7 chickens. We doubled up on the last two. We did use the crate. Hubby manned the crate, I caught the chickens, we went to the coop and popped them onto the roosts. Red Leader did make one attempt to jump out the window, but was of course foiled by the hardware cloth screen. She quickly jumped back up on the roost and settled in. All on all, pretty smooth. Here they are, in their spacious new home.
