As soon as it starts to get evening here the older birds come in a start to roost, the teenagers next and the youngsters are of course the last.

It’s a big bonus having them in the barn, I leave the hen house door open and they all go to bed when they want.

My issue right now is Mr P needs to be kept separate from Bert, and Rosario from Mr LC, and the young hens like to pick at Mr P’s head and butt pin feathers coming in.

Just as well I keep him separated, once his feathers have grown out maybe I can put him back with the main gang. It’s such a worry with Bert though. 😞

Mr. P. House Rooster for a few days!!
More like a couple months, he is taking his own sweet time growing those new feathers in.

I wonder if this is why he is so cranky? Maybe I will try him on some Tylenol to see if he is maybe achy with his arthritis and feathers growing in. Might improve his attitude.

Took a break and took some pictures.

They seem VERY confused by the linoleum. It is quite slick. They flap and the litter goes flying. I do think we may add a poop board under the roosts. I read somewhere on here one person say they didn't use shavings at all with linoleum and poop boards. They just sweep up as needed.

Thoughts?

Here’s one for the history books:
CeeCee has gone on to better grassing grounds. She jumps over the fence separating the front property from the backyard where the chooks belong. She goes to see my new tenant (I think she likes his long hair)
He brought her back to me a Bit ago, and I started teasing him.
(Oh, you like the young blonde ones I guess? ) he got so embarrassed and tried to tell his side of the story.
I explained to him that it doesn’t matter what us guys think, in the end, it’s always the girls who decide!.
I told him though, “Leave my girlfriend alone for now!” :lau :gig

Shavings keep odours down, and soak up any moisture. I use a manure rake to pick rake up the shavings and pick up any poops, feathers and other debris.

The tines are close enough together to pick up clumped poops.
