That makes me sad. Though I haven’t seen a pile of feathers either.
I did see a bunch of turkeys together so I am holding on to the idea that she has found her tribe and has gone off with them.

They do flock together for the winter. They go off on their own prior to spring mating through summer (but you often see a 'flock' because of momma with her offspring), then flock again for the winter. This is a bit early for the 'flocking' - so it may be they are flocking early, or it may be that you are just seeing a momma with her almost full size clutch.

Hoping your girl is still around! She looked on the smaller side - she may have been a late hatch last year, and was too young for mating this spring - so was a 'loner'.

Sensible chickens are replacing their feathers so they can stay nice and warm in the winter.
And then there is Tassels…..

TASSELS IS BROODY AGAIN!!!!!

Well, who would want to cast off such BEAUTIFUL feathers! I can change my feather coat color just by shifting in the sun - can YOU do that???

And, to give that gift to my offspring - what a glorious thing!

Hurumph...these servants that think they know everything!

W/ 5 Silkies we are in a rotation ~ as soon as one broody breaks another starts & one or 2 are always leaving an egg @ day! Boy do layers get mad if a broody snatches their egg to sit on it! Every hour on the hour there's a racket going on. Good thing we're home all day to stop the noise for the neighbors' sake.

Surprisingly I haven’t had much issue with the silkies, only Curly was broody this year.

And those two barn yard mutts.

I know. And I feel so bad about it.

I would just let her sit and brood, but haul her butt off twice a day. She will settle down next year. Her hormones will even out. Dorothy was like that her first year, and she didn’t go broody again until this year.

I was getting ready to do that last night....Nimbus was behind Hetty up in the corner.....2 black birds....similar sized....wanting the same space....

I have that wee bantam hen who is so tiny! She really snugs in between the others hahaha!
