I just accept it as background noise. I do have to turn the TV up sometimes when it is very loud as it is right now.

Hattie would bust that theory. I don't think she laid an egg all year. Maybe one or two at best. She is going through her typical horrible molt again this year.

Daisy, the greatest hen ever, also busted this theory in the opposite way. She laid 360 eggs one year with her typical smooth mild molt.

I wonder if their data might not be tainted by only studying "production" chickens. I find a huge problem with studies focused only on those chickens that are being "farmed". They tend to not reflect what I see in "pet" chickens.
Yes, Misty and Whiskers both moult hard, whiskers after she was broody for that 6 or 7 weeks, and Misty now, both are now laying only about 3 times a week now (when they lay). Both are mutts as far as I can tell.

You are likely correct that it’s the ‘farmed’ chooks being studied. I will have to read this guide, sounds interesting.

We had an overnight guest. He's doing the hunch, runny pale brown poo, and very thin.

He slept on nice warm straw in the bathtub, got some wormies and unsalted peanuts, and there's hydro hen in the water.
I think worms, my dad found our microscope so I guess I'll try to do a fecal exam.
If I do meat birds again I will hatch my own, this is ridiculous.
u can go ahead and worm if you have not done so before. Being outside eating worms and bugs etc they pick stuff up.

I have used Panacur (3ml in a gallon of water for 3 days, repeat two weeks later), there doesn’t appear to be any egg or meat withdrawl with that. Though I did hold back eggs for the days they were being treated.

Palindrome yet again 😊♥️

Mankind has been crossbreeding the royal Leghorn vigorously since 1950's to increase egg production in other breeds ~ not just for looks. Porcelain Leghorns was left off website list. Ages ago I was considering adding Exchequer, Porcelain & Brown to the flock but there's absolutely nothing to beat the original White.
My Exchequer is a nut. She got to five pounds, and she didn't lay eggs every day of the year. She was advertised as being a 3 pound, 360 eggs a year bird. Nope. Josey decided that wasn't good enough for her. She isn't laying right now, and she's at 4 pounds due to a molt.

I can't stand the track ball mice. Maybe because I have short thumbs and small hands. dunno if they're avaliable for children's hands, but that's more likely what I would need.

ruralmouse ~ the Evoluent brand & some other less expensive slanted ergonomic mouse come in small medium large sizes ~ some brands have no size options. I too am not a fan of trackball since it over-uses the thumb. But everyone has different issues w/different mouse. For myself I like an ergonomic tilted mouse that lets me rest the pinky on the mouse rather than drag the pinky on the desk.

Evoluent & Meetion are the only tilted style brands on Amazon that offer a pinky rest but so far Meetion only comes for large hands while Evoluent has size choices.

Thanks for the info. I will be investigating....and probably getting one. As a handicrafter, my hands take a workout.

In other news, started a fire in the stove this morning. Really should have last night, but too tired to do the set up and wait for it to catch well. This morning, we tested things out, and initially, it looked like we'd need to get a sweep out for the chimney. Then we realized we'd forgotten of open the air while the fire caught. All working great now.

Poor Nellie in the middle isn't moulting as hard as her first moult, but she's close.

Brown Leghorns are also known for their distinctive intellectual demeanor. View attachment 3971099View attachment 3971101
Difference between Light Brown Leghorns & Dark Brown Leghorns? The Dark Browns are basically mostly chocolate brown while the Light Browns have more colors resembling Partridge colors (usually hatchery stock). Leghorn roos have a stately stance but I love the vibrant plumage in Welsummer roos a tad more. Both Leghorn & Welsummer roos have bits of white tuft feathers at the base of their tails even the Dark Brown Leg has the white tufts. Must be a Red Jungle Fowl genetic history

@rural mouse ~ any thoughts/input?
