It is so mild here I had to open windows in the barn and the hen house! Very unusual for this time of year.

But I am not complaining! Tonight the chooks were just having a grand time outside with the warm weather. Time goes back this weekend so they won’t get outside time next week when I get home it will be dark 😞😞😞😞😢😢😢

Such is winter in the northern latitudes.

Words for the Birds

Here are some of the many words my ladies acknowledge.

Their Name: Everyone but Aster will come when I call their names. She will learn.

Chook chook: generic flock call. Everyone comes.

Come on, Come on: Means come to me wherever I am. If I have lingering chickens when I call Chook chook, Come on will get them to come on over.

Go to Bed: Aurora will finally go to roost. She stays out late hoping for last moment treats. Her and Maleficent did this to get away from Patsy.

HAWK!!!: Everyone runs to cover, usually the coops and run.

Daisy, the greatest hen ever, knew to jump in my lap when I said Up and/or patted my lap. She also knew Red and Blue. She would peck a red cup if I said red and a blue cup when I said blue.

There are more. These are just off the top of my head.

This was supposed to be a mugshot Monday but I'm two days late. I started it very late Monday evening and it hasn't crossed my mind yesterday. I've been trying to go to bed earlier. So, this is just a regular photo of Grandma.
"I'd be safe and warm (I'd be safe and warm)
If I was in L.A. (if I was in L.A.)
California dreamin' (California dreamin')
On such a winter's day"

Thank you. :love This political talk has been really upsetting me. Making my 'safe place' (FBA), NOT such a safe place lately. I've been thinking of just leaving - some of the posts have upset me that much.😞😞

Everyone, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE stick to chicken related things and away from politics and social commentary.🤞🤞🤞

Thank you.

I could not bear to have you leave the thread. I apologize for encouraging the discussion myself.

Just so everyone understands, no more politics here. Not now. Not ever. Let's stick to chickens and "ponies".

What about chicken politics? Like Queen Aurora's controversial statements that Polish (and Silkies, if memory serves) are not chickens?

I already said chicken politics were OK. But using your chickens as surrogates for human politics is not ok.

My older three know their names. The younger 2 seem to know i am talking to them, but I don't think they are quite clear on the concept, but they usually come to "speckles"

Rosie's favorite thing to hear is "come see" which usually means i am turning something over or moving something where bugs might be.

Everyone knows "seeds and bugs" and "greens"

Alinta knows "go," "go do something else," and "no" which all come out when she is trying to bite me.

I am sure there are more.

Twofer i forgot to post yesterday, two cold birds waiting for bedtime.
