Treadle feeder solves a lot of that kind of problem, including mice / rats.
Treadle feeders are a good concept but they scared our chickens silly ~ especially smaller sizes like Silkies ~ those metal treadles are LOUD when they open/close.

We got two of these large metal treadle feeders from the company who sold us our Barn Coop/Run but the feeders were huge & obviously were dog feeders modified as a chicken feeder ~ what a dud! These were huge about 2 ft tall!

So we bought a smaller size Feed-O-Matic treadle feeder w/mostly resin parts; however the metal mechanisms to operate the treadles are still noisy. We did all the recommendations for getting the birds to get over their fears. Only one chicken ever used the treadle but the timid Ameraucana & Silkies refused to get near it & it was not that tall!

Our Blue Breda hen was the only one that used the small Feed-O-Matic feeder ~ the other chickens ran away when they heard the noise of the treadle or saw the lid open in front of them. We followed instructions on training but none of it worked except on ONE hen! This might work to train more assertive standard hens like Leghorns, Australorps, or Rhode Islands but timid gentle birds like Silkies, Polish, bantams, etc, maybe not be a good choice.

I like that. I would also treat at this point.
I also gave her some Tylenol, I am sure it’s making her feel miserable. She is eating and scratching around when I look on the camera so I am not too worried about her. But if she does have something like Coryza I want to nip it in the bud, she has no discharge from nose or eyes. But if that were to start then she could really infect the others. I am keeping Mr P and his ladies apart from the others but if it is Coryza then likely they have all been exposed.

Maybe it’s a simple sinus infection maybe something more. Either way I don’t want her suffering any further.

I am also checking everyone’s face at night now to see if anyone else has any swelling or discharge. If they show signs they will immediately be put on the Sulphatrim also.

It’s annoying because I wanted to worm everyone again. But I don’t want to if she is on the antibiotics.

I'm worried about my chooks now. The sparrows invade their feeder whenever they can. We got some bird netting in today to bird proof the coop but those sparrows are very crafty with their ways of getting in.
Are they coming in the chicken door? I saw someone nailed a curtain over their chicken door and cut strips about every inch all the way up. The chickens got used to going through it, but it scares the birds, and they won't.

Chickens learn very fast to just push through curtains (or the screen I have for my office door), they are not at all shy about it either! Smartie pants 🥰

It’s a big beautiful moon out there tonight, and cold! The sky is clear and the stars are brilliant. Likely have a good hard frost tonight. Which is good, the ticks have been horrible for poor Truly. She just swells right up where they bite into her; poor old girl is just one big itch!

I’ll have to give her some prednisone tomorrow as I am sure the shot I have her last week will be wearing off. I have never seen the ticks so bad! I have checked the chickens over some, but haven’t seen any ticks on them, not sure if they would just pluck the tick off or what?

Has anyone ever seen a tick on a chook?
