How old are they - are they closer to a full year than, say 6 months? I don't remember when they hatched)
9-10 months
Do they have have broken feathers/bare patches/back frm rooster matings?
Those 2, no missing back feathers, no broken feathers, not even the line just above the tail.
Finally, did either think about going broody and pluck a few feathers?
The breast/belly are about the only areas that AREN'T tatty looking. I think one of the pullets was mulling the idea of going broody a couple of months ago, but 1. Can't remember which, and 2. It might have been Cardhu or her sisters (all of whom are FINALLY moulting: poor Cardhu looks like Nellie in her first moult) (all a year and a half)

With them being early March hatch, they could fall into your description of the first to lay....but....the wyandottes were the last to lay (a week younger than the others) and brahmas usually are 6-8 months before laying (Rose started much earlier than I expected (more like the 5.5 month mark) and is quite a bit larger than Daisy who waited to closer to the usual timeline)

Same here - it is COLD and snowy and very windy.
Everyone is unhappy including me. They think it is my fault, but I told them it was your fault and it looks to me like your ladies agree that you are to blame!
You can blame me. Mine surely do.

Aster did emerge this afternoon and explore the snow for about 3 minutes and then back in she went. The wind was legendary today.
