If I ever do this chicken thing again, I’ll be sure to get smart birds, like Brown Leghorns, Ameraucana breeds and Rhode Island Red chooks. I prefer a chook that I can have a conversation with.

Our Dominiques were such Chatty Cathy's from the first day we brought the chicks home.

They'd all come running to stand on our shoes chirping up a storm. Or maybe we encouraged them to be pesty conversationalists. They craved attention from us.

On 2nd thought, every Dom we had was people-friendly, outgoing, unafraid of us immediately. Other breeds we had were not near as super curious from chickhood. To this day our remaining Dom carries on conversations w/us. She's been more chatty since she's become alpha hen over the 5 Silkies

My Dominiques ran the food cartel. Kept all those except they favored out of the food until they were full.

In essence, Josephine's empire is just a mafia with a fancy name. They rule the yard. They poop where they want. Nobody criticizes them because then the humans will not get eggs.

General consensus in the faceybook chicken groups is Wyandottes get meaner as they age.
I know production hybrids tend to be meaner due to needing more protein to function. Kasumi was definitely a mean girl as soon as Samara went broody and stopped keeping her in line.

Hi Ijak!

The air stunk for several days wafting smoke toward our valley. Western horizon still looks dirty even now. DH & I had sinus problems from the smoke but it's more worrisome to us how it affects little 2-lb Silkies. They are resilient little birds but still not something we want them to weather .

I let my chickens out this afternoon. They really wanted to be out as usual.

My gang absolutely will not walk in snow at all. If it’s frozen on top they will walk on that, but would prefer not to do that even.

My BoPeeps is a Dominique . I feel so sorry for her because she is such a beauty, but not really accelerated by the other Rocks.
But “such is life “ and I love her so much!
