How profound your words are at the moment, a person here in Ontario that I correspond with (canadianwind) has offered to sell me her Brahma pullets (along with the cockerel which would be a no no for me).

I was not planning on acquiring any further birds as I am way way over limit. It is a thing I am giving some thought to: cost of buying them, having to quarantine them (where?), now way way way over limit, the cockerel is a huge dealbreaker - I will not take on another cockerel. My huge fear of the dumplings being Roos stresses me to no end!

Yep, I had to give up a pair of free rare Coronation Sussex birds cuz one was a gorgeous roo

Yes finally some mountain snowpack reserves in Southern California. It doesn't usually come this late in the season.

Both of my biological grandmothers were in the "red hat society." I don't even know if that's a thing anymore. They went to meetings, had extravagant tea parties, and even rode in a local parade!

Red Hat Society, went underground. Now they are called the society of the Black Hats

In watching videos of different mama chickens they seem very protective at 1st & gradually get more aloof w/ the chicks as the weeks go by. Maybe hens get tired of raising squawking chicks the way tired human moms might feel like throwing their screaming babies out the window sometimes?!

I have often threatened, but never followed up on, throwing people (and kids) out the got-dang window

This is one of my favorite poems.

It is best read out loud. I delivered it on stage at my retirement bash instead of some sappy appreciation speech (well I did some of that too).

Those are my favorite kind of old ladies! Making up for "me time" they never had when they were raising a family!

Only us moms know that fleeting feeling. I think post-partum + fatigue is responsible for that thought!
