Eggs have 5 days to go.

I need to find my brooder and set it up... -20 C temps outside make it pretty difficult. With some gloves I might be able to find it, but for some reason I don't remember where I put it last year. Nobody's pipped yet (as I've expected) and I'm going to candle them again soon. Get ready for baby chick pictures.

That would be lovely...there are so many variations of flavors & ways to make it. We've got our recipe down to a lazy science. At 1st we thought we had to get gourmet fancy & now we do it w/less fuss.

I know the eggs need to sit pointy side down for 12 hours before incubating, to make sure the air sacs are in the right place. I was going to let them sit overnight and set them when I get up in the morning.

I just saw this. I appologize ahead of time if I am not completely clear, had to work today and we were slammed.

For shipped eggs let those eggs sit for at least 24 hours at room temperature. They say 24 to 48 hours to settle. I always set up my incubator at least the day before I plan to set. I want it to hold temp and humidity for a day before I add eggs. Once set it will take several hours for the eggs to come up to temperature in the incubator. Do not panic if you hit day 21 and nothing has hatched. Several will probably hatch on day 22 and day 23 for the late hatchers.

I have never heard of a sapote before. Fascinating.

Once I tasted my folks' white tropical sapote it was like eating sweet soft custard & every other fruit pales in comparison. The fruit is so delicate & ripens so fast it's not an exotic produce supermarkets will carry ~ too shelf unstable & expensive so not a customer commodity. Sapote is an Adam & Eve fruit that has to be eaten directly after picking from the tree.

Kids are just the best!! I wanted to be a nascar driver (used to pretend to be Mark Martin...why not? ), own a restaurant called Just Salads where we would serve salad, ramen noodles, and tang... A zookeeper... Those are the first 3 jobs I remember wanting to have and they were all around the same time LOL

You mentioned zoo's & suddenly AI came to mind. Wonder if any AI going on in those open zoo pens...
