If only I could have had cover from my back door to the coop, I could have coped so much better. I'd probably still have princess and more rescues today.

We anticipated our old age when we added a patio over the 2nd bigger barn coop so we have cover while collecting eggs when it rains. It was a priority for me.

Princess lost prior flockmates & a doggie & a kitty she was acquainted w/ so it was a good time for rehoming her. She seemed pretty independent to me anyway. She looks well in the rescue rehoming. Her comb even looks less floppy w/ all the variety nutrients of field grasses she's getting?

80F outside. It's hot.

It was 90F here on Monday, rained a bit on Wednesday, & overcast 60F & gloomy no sun today! I wonder if chickens are as confused as us at the weather

My girls used to blame me fir bad weather, so did the cat... that cat was so funny. A few times he did this, he went to look outside the front door then turned back because it was raining. Then immediately asked to go out the back, only to see it was raining outside that door as well. Of course it was all my fault I miss that silly fluff ball

First off...run is repaired!

You can barely see hubby out there fixing it, I had to help finish it up and then I re ziptied the wire and support ropes. It's ready for me to fill in the holes and add dig barriers, then chicklets after Marble and Buffy have their second lousing treatment.

Speaking of, here's the unhappy couple now. They were given some shredded cheese as an apology for the injustices I visited upon them.

Chickens love sand & will kick it around once they find out how much fun it is ~ you might need higher than a 2x4 board to contain sand. I put together a 4x4 cedar raised garden bed as a sandbox/dustbath for our chickens 10 yrs ago. There's a 10x10 popup canopy over it to keep sand dry during rain & shady during summer. No matter how wet or dry the yard is, the sandbox is always used by the hens.

However deep I made the sandbox, the hens fling the sand out of the box so we have to keep sweeping up the hurled sand & keep adding a new bag of playsand 2 or 3x/year ~ at least its not a real expensive item but those hens really throw that sand out when they dustbathe, walk out of the sandbox, then shake off the sand outside of the sandbox. Still, I'm glad we have it for them, just never knew they scattered it around so much! Sometimes it's just a nice place for them to snooze

I've broken a couple laptop keyboards doing that. Very dangerous.

Yup gotta know how.

When I worked at Sears one April Fools day the guys popped all the keys off my keyboard and mixed them all up.

As soon as my fingers touched the keyboard I knew they were wrong.

Marble and Buffy hate me now, but they've been treated as well as the coop. I even put a layer of ash into the run extension so they can use it for dustbathing.
That little man has some kicks on him! Thankfully I had the pointy bits all facing away from me when he went all kung-fu.

I bet he wasn’t impressed! When I first got Mr P he was terrified of me, but I made sure to handle him as much as possible.

Now, I am not going to say he is at all friendly, but he is better at being handled. I still can’t catch him unless I chase him down, so I make sure to do any work on him after dark.

But once I get hold of him he is calm. He used to scream like he was being murdered! Really terrifying sounds he makes too!
