I will support any decision she makes as far as college goes.
From my perspective as a parent, I feel going away and living in a dorm setting will be wonderful for her. She needs a little taste of "mommy is not always going to be right next door". This is hard for me to say that as she has also looked into University of Pikeville which is literally 5 minutes away. They offer criminal justice and computer forensics which she is still interested in. Between the financial aid options she can do all 4 years with very minimal costs and is the most affordable right now. The drawback, even for her freshmen year she can stay at home. It is a good school though so if she chooses it that is great.
She has considered University of Kentucky and Transylvania University. Both great options and only 3 hours away. I will not let her hear this but the thought of her living in Lexington scares me to death. Lexington is rough and nightly on the news when I tune in it is always stories of shootings. I myself need to learn to "let go" so to speak as a parent.
University of Georgia has always came up in conversations since she was about 11. I do not know why but she has Georgia on the brain and it is still almost front and center. It is a couple states away which gives this momma a little internal grief but at least she will be on the same coast as me.
Personally, I am a huge fan of Morehead. Morehead is a college town but it is not nearly as rough as Lexington.
I am just thankful at the moment she has not mentioned Louisville once. I know it is a great school but good grief the crime, it is worse then Lexington. You can also just shoot me now if out of the blue she decides to head out west to California. I'm sorry no offense to those that live out there, but, please do not even go there Rosie.
