I thought she looked very stylish, really rocking that topknot! And she can see all the good treats before the others 😉
Phyllis would have NEVER permitted that. Not elegant at all.

Made a few adjustments and added a few things.
New waterer, it has a hose where I can drain it at the bottom and they will surely not run out of water even when heat gets turned up this summer. It was the Silkies that figured out the waterer first, smart cookies!

New feeder, it holds 50 lbs of feed. So happy with this feeder.

The chickens like it too!

Fennel says hello 👋

They all seem to be getting along very well, the calm before the hormones kick in. I am just gonna enjoy it.

I didn’t snap a pic but I did add a nice wide ramp up to the roost bar in the coop and I am attempting to lure them up there by leaving a trail of feed. They did go up at least, so there is hope they will start roost at night vs pile.
If you put a light in the coop it can help to draw them in at dusk.

Those are great names!
Thank you 😊
Silkies are Nyx and Pebble
SFH’s - girls - Rue, Porcini, Chervil, Juniper, Parsley, and Caper
Boys - Tarragon, Chive, Thyme, and Fennel
I know only one boy can stay but they will all have names, be loved while they are with us and remembered when they’re gone.
Jolly has figured out how to get up onto the roosting ledge. I am sure they will all figure it out.

Thank you both so much. I agree, I am sure they will get there. My daughter and I have been herding them into the coop at night in hopes they will get the idea that this is what they need to do. They were sleeping on the sand floor in a corner piled up but as of tonight they at least moved to the nest box instead.

Esmae and I put feed up the ramp and on the bar and a few of them did decide to at least check it out. Which is a huge improvement.

I will definitely try the light, that is brilliant! I have a solar light I can try tomorrow.

No pearls today? I loved seeing her with her fancy jewelry ♥️

I was sizing up Mr P’s topknot, I am noting that his left eye is being affected by the crest itself flopping down over the eye. He is at the moment effectively blind on the left side. No wonder he is running ‘sideways’. I’ll try and see if I can somehow lift the actual crest tissue up and away from his eye by hauling up some of his crest feathers on that side.

Good thirsty Thursday morning

I know it’s early but my legs, arms and back are acting up (don’t let anyone tell you RLS is only in the legs, it can also affect the arms and the torso/back)

Yesterday afternoon the gang sampled some wild water - it needed some mixing, which a few were happy to oblige, and a lot of sampling - it was found to be an adequate vintage.

Georgie deigned to join in the sampling

Have an awesome night all!

Well it has been a roller coaster the past week.

Found someone to take the meatbird chick last Thursday, so no longer stressing about it but also sad to see her go.

Sunday night we finally lost Scarlett due to her ascites. :hitI will miss her terribly. She was my “shoulder chicken”, the only one who really kept flying up on me o feel they were grown. And she is also my avatar. She was three years old.

And Buffy, one of my last 2 Isa Browns from my original flock has also come down with Ascites, and it progressed rapidly. I first noticed it about two weeks ago. Yesterday she was already in so much distress that I made the decision to drain her a little. It went well, but I know it is a temporary measure to make her more comfortable. And it also comes with risks like shock or infection. She did seem to feel a little better today, it I know it is only a matter of time until I lose her too.

I do also have happier news and pics. Will post those separately. And not sure if it will be now or tomorrow as it is getting late. And I have a time of quotes saved from posts I want to reply to and have not gotten to it yet. 😅
