I love my Embden Geese (Sampson, Delilah, and their daughter). They are sweet - I call them the 'grip and rip' crew, though. When I bring a handful of grass into the run and call them, they grab ahold of that grass by the side of their beak, grip and rip the grass off - their beaks/jaw strength are amazing! They are quite sweet, though (except when the girls hormones are ramping up to lay again in Feb...Sampson gets very protective, hissy, etc....and each year he has to relearn that I am not a threat and it is okay...then he settles down some....and he turns back into a sweet marshmallow all over again when the girls are done laying for the year in late May/early June!

Would love to have geese. Ill
Have to settle for the wild geese that I chase away each Spring though 😊👍

Sitting here in my truck in the sunshine, chilly today only 18C but the smoke has cleared - for now.

I had to leave work to come home, my niece is coming at 9:30 to help put my hay elevator in the loft.

I made sure to was home early so she doesn’t have to wait for me.

Are you feeling the sarcasm of that statement as it is now 9:46….. this is why I rarely ask anyone ever for help. They always make it feel like it’s an imposition when I ask, and they never arrive when they say they will. And yet I had to leave work (and put up with my boss giving me the evil eye), the sunshine sure is warm though…..

Oh not to worry, I promised my niece I would look after her cats for her the next few days. It’s ok for her to ask for help apparently.

Oh it’s my hay elevator, had it for years, but I need help putting it down and hauling it back up into the loft.

10:02…… sheesh! It takes 5 minutes with a couple big guys to haul it back up into the loft.

10:03…..

Fluffy is an understatement!💗

Could you install a winch to help lift and lower it?

Somewhat exciting news. I had two Barnevelders out of the four with very similar patterning that I couldn’t tell apart, except one would hop on me and let me pet her neck and wattles, and one was skittish and would not. Well, after the attack the one remaining wouldn’t come to me, so I thought the one who died was the friendly one. But yesterday the other jumped on my lap and hung out with me for five minutes, and even Angel, who never comes up to me also jumped up with her for a bit and let me pet her as well! I was so happy! I think maybe right after the attack my favorite was just anxious and sad about her sister dying and that’s why she didn’t come to me? Or it was my favorite that died and now the skittish one wants a friend? I don’t know, but I had two fluffy butt friends sitting on my lap yesterday. 🥰

I didn’t get a picture though.

Here’s two of the flock. One where they are resting in the shade during the heat of the day. The other where they are free ranging in the evening.
