A brief flock update:

Pebble has decided that attacking people may not be working for him and has calmed down thankfully. He now only does it when herded which he still really objects to. I can work with that.

The SFH’s are all grown up. I think all the girls are laying now. Thyme is a fantastic rooster and is looking after them. He has zero aggression with humans kids or adults and still hops up to sit with me on occasion even. He leaves Nyx and the babies alone unless they pester him and then it’s just a back off peck. He does harass Pebble but only when he bothers his girls and tbf Pebble needs some manners management. Pebble remains unharmed except perhaps his pride so I have no real concerns about them being capable of co-existing.

Thankfully Clyde and Mr LC seem to be cohabitating well, Clyde will chase Mr LC sometimes but they pretty much ignore each other.

Mr LC and Mr P though will scrap if they are out together. And it’s funny, because Mr P will thump Mr LC who will back down but the moment Mr P turns his back Mr LC is ninja kicking him in the butt! Poor Mr P is not so fast so he gets a good kick.

Not sure what will happen if i am ever able to run them all together again.

So I bit the bullet and got the Wheaten Marans Rooster from my beekeeper friend who shows chickens. This poor soul would have been brought to the chicken market because he’s not SOP. Has some brown dusting on his chest. Sweetie pie who she called Dusty. I think the only reason she still had him was because he’s so sweet.

Quarantine then introduction.

So help me, another rooster. At least I free range and they have lots of space.

I will have to look for or hope for more hens. My ratio is off. But I did want more than just RIR cockerels/roosters in my flock genes going forward.

Also, lost a Barnevelder last week. Didn’t post because I was so mad. Pretty sure it was a dog but can’t prove it. Happened when I was walking my dog so I wasn’t here to see it all go down. Pretty sure it was the one that was laying those beautiful speckled eggs for a few days, because none since. 😭

Oh be still my heart, he is STUNNING!!! I LOVE LOVE everything about him. He shocks me, I do not know what I was expecting with Wheaten Marans rooster coloring, but it sure was not this. I had to take a second hard look to spot the differences between Wheaton and Black Copper Marans roos.

Here was my boy Drumstick. He set the bar high in his time here and his son Bubba met it. I'm hoping Grandson Homer can also rise to the challenge.

Can you spot the differences? Besides the coloring on Dusty's chest which I guess is a fault, the only other difference I see is the coloring on Dusty's wing tips and that brown feather in the tail.

I need to chipper up, maybe splash some battery acid on my face (kidding) I have a lunch appointment with the mayor today, to discuss the possibility of my northern property to be sold to for re-zoning “benefiting the whole county” :D I’m not using it anyways.
And kelly wants to keep her horses in Canada 🇨🇦 anyways!

Want me to bring up Gizmo? There will be no more scrapping, but there might be some blood
