Poor pups. Restaurant leftovers. She never stood a chance! 😬 (We did step in and take the leftovers back and bring them inside for her to eat. Sal’s is her favorite!)

Poor Mini! How tragic. You can’t easily know what’s going on.
Wouldn’t a major operation like a hysterectomy be a really big deal, maybe not even survivable? Do people do them on birds these days?
I did some cursory digging/research ~ There are surgeries but very risky w/ a lot of complications associated w/ surgery on a small bird cuz there is the risk w/anesthesia also & can you imagine the vet expense?! There are implants but FDA in the USA has not approved it for egg halting. A last option is hormone injections to halt egg production but who knows how that messes up a hen's health? But right now hormone injection therapy sounds like the only USA option but there are health risks in long-term use; however it cannot be given to a hen w/ reproductive cancer like what my Mini had. I don't know that any option could've helped our Mini who managed to live to almost 7 yrs in spite of her health issues thx to a wonderful vet who saved her life more than once 🩷

I took over someone else's abandoned setup and I've been busy/lazy about doing all the work I have planned, so at the moment my chickens have a choice of the least knackered wooden coop that was already here, a plastic Nestera coop, and a few other spaces. I think small coops that only have enough space for nest boxes and a roost are more common in the UK in general, partly because of the climate but it might also be a cultural thing (smaller country; smaller properties). Sometimes they choose to roost outside when the weather's good and I don't try to stop them.
A Nestera Coop? Is it still in decent condition? What size/model is it? Worth saving? & I agree that UK chickeneering is different from other parts of the globe💕

Has Nacho resolved her issue at losing her chick & back to normal yet? You may need to do more nest searches on your property before you get overrun w/ any more surprise hatches:idunnounless you actually want more birds...?
This is difficult. My property is huge, where the chooks free range

Another great church friend score today. My buddy from church brought me a ten pound box of dried, black soldier fly larvae, for the chickens! I still had over a pound left of the previous box, but now I don’t have to ration so much. And during mounting season, BSFL is perfect for the vitamin supplementation needed. :D
