* Sigh* you just keep looking for reasons to worry!

They may well have been trying to mate him, since that is about the age (especially if they were more heritage leaning and tend to mature later...)

don't go looking for trouble - can't it find you easily enough as it is????

I know, I know. But it is how I prepare.
I am perpetually happy because things are rarely quite as bad as I imagine they might be!

Only Sadness

Joy passed away this morning in my arms. She was not even 6 months old.

In tribute, here is a video of her eating from my hand for the first time only 3 weeks ago.

I've been away and am catching up on this thread. I'm so sorry! You are such a great chicken parent - this is heartbreaking! I'm so sad for you and your wife.

Wonder why the noisy military copters fly so low here? It's understandable for the police or firefighting copters to circle low in their official duties... & the news copters fly low over the freeway reporting traffic... just haven't figured why the military fly so low it rattles our house?! Noise doesn't bother the chickens though.

Firefighting copter I posted from 2013

Even city birds don't seem to be bothered by noisy aircraft & don't fly off.

The Base is the largest training Base in Canada, they practice doing low flights all the time. And it’s always fun when the personnel come out in the township and so their practice stuff like hiding in ditches - scaring the bagebeer south of my as I am going for a quiet ride….. Try harder buddy! Can’t fool my horse haha!

I think they also fly low because I am out there on the weekends and they want to see what shinanigans I am up to hahahaha.

@RoyalChick Read this out loud to your hens. Ensure Mr. Chips can't hear.

Edit to add: You can also print out a picture of Dominica and remind your hens to be like her. Don't tell them about her not-so-heroic strategy of smacking the Empress for a quick bite of food.

Oh I forgot that! I laughed so hard the first time, and again now - thanks kiddo I was in need of a good laugh ♥️

Dominica is glad it made you laugh. She has Beakbook, you know. Always watching you.

Last I heard she had to make a second Beakbook account so she could spy on Cockerel. He blocked her main one when he got mad at her for her bravery.

Whenever one flew over our house here I went out and took a photo of it. I wonder if they ever noticed me doing that.

Mr Chips should be fine, he has a couple of big hens who are giving him good lessons.

I feel the cockerels in that thread where attempting to mate with this person. Remember Mr LC and Clyde both had a brief love affair with my hands (bit embarrassing but cute in a weird way), it didn’t last long I didn’t encourage them.

Kicking (ok lifting them off the ground) as this person did was the wrong thing to do. A hose or spray bottle would have deterred them.

Now the attacking the toddler is a no no and absolutely not to be tolerated, if they had a proper coop run to keeep them in and avoid human interaction it would have been better. The fact that the kids could handle them fine showed that the birds trusted them completely.

Your wee man will be fine - he hasn’t done anything to challenge you so I wouldn't worry - you will be fine.
