The drawing ointment softened things up overnight, and I’m starting to think that the ā€œswellingā€ may be a large solid pus lump?View attachment 2502647View attachment 2502648View attachment 2503102
There is still some heat to the area as well. I might just end up lancing it if it continues looking like this. I will probably need to slice it open, which I really, really want to avoid doing. If I go that route I will give him some of the metacam beforehand, and hope that eases the procedure. I’ve been applying the drawing ointment in a thin film over the entire skin area and I could feel a little movement/mass under the skin today. We got about 5 minutes of soaking in before Roostie soaked my living room... foot baths will need to be an outside activityView attachment 2502916View attachment 2503116
This is great to hear, Kris!

What is this I Spy?

I was watching Hattie and I noticed something odd. Hattie has this beautiful gradient in her feather colors from her dark head to her almost white fluffy bum. I was looking at her the other day and I saw this dark spot on her side. At first I thought maybe she had poo on her somehow. But no. It seems that after her molt Miss Hattie now has one dark feather on each of her wings. It is normally tucked away and you can't see it but I was able to snag a picture of it poking out. Check this out.

Oh my goodness, Bob. That is one pristine looking bum.

You peeps, get cold and snowy weather, while I’m here begging for rain (Our weather has been horribly dry this year :hit
Alex, are you not expecting the same atmospheric river we’re getting? People in the burn areas have already been evacuated in advance of the storms, because they anticipate lots of debris flow.

Yes. I am in shock and not sure how to think about it.
I actually think she may have laid one earlier in the week because I had 3 brown eggs on Tuesday but I assumed I must have made a mistake because I only noted one brown egg on Monday so I assumed it was just a Monday egg I didn't notice.
But this morning I was woken by the sound of foxes yelling outside (they make quite a racket) and I checked the coop cam and was in a panic that there were only 4 on the roost. And it was Maggie who was missing. I naturally feared the worst but checked the other camera and there she was in a nest box. So when she came out I went out and there was an egg.
Of course if she is just 'back to normal' I will be ecstatic - but I do worry after the lash eggs that this is the beginning of the end.
My Ruby laid seven eggs last time I let her come fully into lay (between hormone implants) and she swelled up miserably. Is a hormone implant something you might consider if her laying status causes problems?

So glad it's having an effect.
Does Roostie seem more comfortable with all the movement and softening in his foot?
