Loved the pics, thanks! :caf I read a couple of the posts before it; I wondered if you were going to be affected by Brexit.
It's got to be a bit of a coin toss now. Nobody really knows what will happen. But, yes, whatever happens Brexit will make life here more difficult and maybe impossible.
Mind you, Trump might have started world war 3 by then so it won't matter.:(

I’d offer to sponsor you to live in Oz, but the entire country may burn down to the ground. :(

Note to self: Don't get automatic doors. It rains here.

I have had this automated door for 3 years with limited trouble before this I believe I may have created this situation with the new roof on the porch. I added an overhang to the roof to keep rain off the porch in the summer. I think that overhang is shading the sensor enough on dark rainy days that it is closing too early. I will just need to recalibrate the sensor today, although I am considering adding a skylight to the porch as well to let more daylight in and even sun for the ladies in the winter.

Good to know that even if I had power to the tractors that the auto doors aren’t as reliable as all that. Factor in the usual rainy weather here and it’s even more discouraging. I have several girls that like to push their luck with the shorter days right now, getting in those last bedtime snacks, and they often end up trying to roost on the nest box or floor because it’s darker in the “coop” area. I help them up when I get in.

We are still in full “Owl Alert” lockdown here, but with the drywall work and painting I’ve been doing spanning into the evening most days, and on the other side of the island, I’m often locking the chickens properly up well after full dark. I’ve had a few more “visits” from the owl, nocturnal, early morning, and even at 2 in the afternoon! (He’s probably just as confused by our grey weather as @BY Bob ‘s door is) Today DH picked up a nerf rival gun in town for me, or as I have begun calling it, the “Owl behavior modification device”... now I only have to wait for it to harass my birds again. I want it to associate the “bad” with the bothering of my chickens, not with that crazy human who is constantly walking up to it waving things and shining headlamps in it’s face.

I hope it works as well for you as it has for me. Good luck.

My husband walked by earlier today and told me the hottest temperature on Earth for today was in Penrith, just down the mountain from us. 48.9C (120F) just before 4pm

That is so hot. I was in 114°F (45.5 C) the first time I went to Arizona. It took my breath away. I cannot imagine the kind of heat you are having. It is like this every year, right?

Sometime's the temp in the summer here in AZ. can reach 118°F. That's why I'm working with the Naked Neck's now. They can handle that kind of heat better. Along with that heat if you aren't getting much rain everything dries out (tree's, bushes, long grass and weed's). That's when there is danger of fires starting, and why California and part's of Arizona get all of those fire's here too.
