Oh my goodness!!
Yeah, dried rice is not very good for them. I'm glad they are feeling better!Hi folks. Having trouble catching up. 50 pages to go and may have missed some stuff along the way. It was an unnerving morning, as TWO young birds (Flo, pullet and Minnie, less than 2-year-old) were clearly NOT feeling well. For some reason my neighbor had thrown brown rice all over his yard and they got into it the previous two late afternoons. I have worked way too hard to slim them down and keep them healthy for them to have unlimited access to uncooked rice, so today I kept them home (except Dorothy and Ester who are not contained by my rinky dink poultry fence.) I thought they might be backed up, so mixed baby bird formula with water and coconut oil into a paste thinking the coconut oil would lubricate the GI tract. Flo improved pretty early, but Minnie took all day. Here she is with her droopy wings and tail:

And here she is at the end of the day.
I don’t know for sure that the rice was the issue, but it was the young birds hanging out in that area yesterday and two you gs ones were sick.
OMG! That is so cute! My chickens won't go anywhere near my cats.
Thanks Bob, it’s good to know I posted it the correct wayI don't think it was necessary to take down. You used a spoiler which was the perfect way to share the information. People could choose to watch or not. Please do not feel bad about sharing it.
I knew the risk I was taking when I clicked on the spoiler! I take responsibility!Don’t watch it, it was my first try at a spoiler but I thought some sort of hiding was worth it. I’m sorry!!
Hang on...I think I counted 16.
Yep, second count I got 18, maybe 19 if that is another chook next to the chook beside the coop.Well I see 19 birds in there, including two feathered creatures in the back run there, one of whom is HUGE, what are they??? So discounting those, that's 17, then if you don't count the rooster, that's 16. Is there an interloper here?My chicken math isn't adding up...
Those kittens aren't going to get much milk from her....
Agreed.I don't think it was necessary to take down. You used a spoiler which was the perfect way to share the information. People could choose to watch or not. Please do not feel bad about sharing it.
I heeded your warning Bob and didn't click the spoiler because I didn't want to be sad.I am not disagreeing with you but I have tiers. Until this (in the spoiler) is eliminated chicks hatched with no mums are nowhere on my list.
Please don't check the spoiler unless you want to be very sad.
