The Really Big Coop
She ratted me out. Patsy showed the Littles where the entrance to my coop was. Now they won't leave.

You are in big trouble now!
You’re a great chickie dad! I hope all is well with her... and you two look very cozyI have a Sick Hen
Patsy is not well. I had noticed some changes in flock dynamics weeks ago. Hattie had become aggressive. She was chasing other birds and rabbits out of the yard. She never cared about that before. It almost seemed as if she was learning from Lilly. Well, this had been going on for a little while but it had not connected in my brain. It was not until I saw Maleficent pecking at Patsy’s butt Sunday a week ago that I saw the signs. It could not have been that bad until then as had not seen anything accumulating on her butt. But it was clear then that she had an issue.
We brought her in and gave her a bath in the sink to clean her up. She loved that. Even taking a 15 minute nap.

Then it was towel off time and a visit with her friend Davis, the cat.

Then the fluff and dry with the blow dryer. Unfortunately no video or photos of that. My wife wanted me to hold her. She did not trust me to let go. Patsy had a grand old time.
We put her onto Amoxicillin to try and clear any infection. It’s been a week and she has perhaps improved marginally but not enough. I am worried that it is something else broken inside perhaps even cancer. She is at least 6 years old and quite possibly significantly older as we rescued her from living under a porch. I am struggling with how much more to do. I am taking a sample down to the state lab for culture. Hopefully that will reveal something and provide direction to my efforts.

It’s funny, I don’t hold them and cuddle with them as a regular thing. It only happens when they are not well. Patsy has spent a lot of time in my lap lately and it is so sweet. She has napped many times in my lap in the past week. I just wish she wasn’t feeing bad.
The other thing that pulls at my heart string is how everyone else in the flock spends time with her. She is not feeling well and they know it. Many times Hattie and Lilly have taken time just standing next her while she lays down and naps. Even the littles have been hanging out with her. They peck and chase each other but they are truly a family and try to support each other when they are not well.
I’m sorry, I am tearing up here in the Charlotte airport as I type this. Sometimes they just break my heart. I am very worried about her.
I hope Pasty improves for you. It's never easy when they get sick. I'm not terribly far from you, if you ever need a hand, just say so.
That is so generous. Thanks so much. I hope she gets better as well. I just hope if it is something else I can find out soon and do what is best for her. The last thing i want is for her to suffer if there is no hope.
