Okay, I have a broody problem. My hen Xzit, wanted to stay in the hot coop, and sit on a golf ball. She’s a bran new laying hen. (First egg just last week) I had to bring her into my chicken room into the Air conditioned space. She was panting bad out in the laying box.
My question is: How to break a determined broody? She can’t stay in the house forever!

My buff Orpington lives broody! She just about dies in the nest box.. she pants and you can hear her gurgling/gasping for air ... I take her out to make her take a break but there is no breaking her... the three Cs are using the space I could normally put her so for now I just keep taking her out! I guess it’s a good thing it hasn’t stopped raining in over a week and will continue to do so for the next 7 days at least!

Wow ready to be a momma after only 1 week of laying, are you sure she is not one of my hens? Honestly, if you have one you could put her in a dog crate for a few days. If she is really really determined, fix a nest in a cat carrier, give her a few eggs and bring her in your chicken room. I know, i'm no help, but then, I have broody hens and chicks every where I turn. Oh, and I knew little Xzit was my favorite for some reason.

Expect a lot of photo's later on today. Had the farrier out this morning and all the chickens were strutting around and posing. Especially Drummie, so I went in and grabbed the camera and went on a photoshoot. After all, have to get a few good ones for the calendar contest Here is one of my favorites. Have I mentioned lately how much I love this boy.

I'm thinking this one is one that needs submitted. But then, I have about 5 that look similar to that one. I may post all of them and number them and see which ones you all like better.

The Heat Goes On

this was the temp at noon today.

A cool 102°F.

I opened the coop and hosed down under the magnolia tree and coop.
